I was referring to the “cheap” Amazon rails “matching” the “cheap” Ruger stocks.

I’ve seen plenty of each.

What is wrong with a ruger American gen 2 20” suppressed 6.5prc low end scope for the kids to grow up on? Lop gets pretty short which is nice for my 7 year old. Also its pretty low in weight. Only deer, antelope and bears will fall to this gun. 500 yards or less. Most likely run hammer hunters as I have really enjoyed them in my 300wm the last 7 years and everything has died very well for me. I know the tikkas are well talked about but I’m trying to keep this cost way down for what it is. I don’t have a desire to buy a factory rifle and then pay to have it cut down and then buy a new stock as well. The ruger seems to fit the bill the best, numbers wise. I’ve been out of the buying rifles game for a long time and am trying to figure out my research now, to purchase in two months or so.

Nothing. I bought one in 7mm/08 for my son. It's a shooter right out of the box.

I just set up a gen 2 6 arc for my 6 year old son. I couldn’t be happier with it. I sighted it in with factory 108 eldms then took it hunting and killed a deer at 300 yards.
He shot it for the first time this weekend and hit every shot on 2 liter soda bottles out to 100 yards off a bog bod. It will be getting a can next.

I chose a RAR Predator Gen 2 over a Tikka.

Trigger is nice, bolt is fine, the stock is not my fav but works. Took the stoopid muzzlebrake off it. It is better than 1-inch w blue box ammo. It shoots like a laser.

I would never buy a gun where i had to replace trigger or stock or barrel or put a muzzlebrake on it to make it shoot “good”.

Likewise would not spend $ on a custom or fancy rifle that can’t outshoot an out of the box RAR, Savage 110, or Tikka whatever.

I had a Timney trigger installed in my Ruger American gen 2 Ranch 5.56 rifle and absolutely love it. It really left the crappy factory trigger in the dust. Trigger is set on 2 pounds.

I'll be a +1 for having a Ruger American Predator in 6.5cm that had the feeding issue, had me frustrated, as I got the replacement mag, and the bullet tip would just so slightly catch on the bevel to the chamber. Would dent deform the tip if it caught hard enough. Looks like I could try to bevel the feed a bit more, but have come to terms with the best move would just be to invest in a better rife. Otherwise the gun shoots great for what it is, and the feed issue isn't always there, mostly seems to be chambering the first round from a fresh mag.

If yours has a rotary mag, you may want to try AICS mags.

My thought process on the 6.5 prc over 6mm is I’m old school and always think heavier is better. Also, we are constantly in wind and hoping to lessen the effect of the wind, even if a tiny little bit. I also will be new to the suppressor world and was thinking that would help with the prc recoil enough, but maybe not? The kids are pretty tough. The gun will not be used for plinking too much, but it will happen some.

I used a 6.5 PRC exclusively for several years.

That being said my kids shoot a 16" 22 creed for they're do all gun in Montana. If you have caliber restrictions I'd still go 6 creed or fast twist 243 before the PRC.

After the kids shot a small sample size of four deer with that short 22 creed I have zero doubts about its lethality on game. Every wound channel was deep and was about 4".

Even for myself I won't go back to a 6.5 PRC. It's an ok round. But you lose a lot of speed when you start knocking the barrel shorter.

The 6 UM is what I use now if I want extra hate further out.

As far as wind and a 22 Creed. I live in Montana where the average wind speed is like 50 mph Not an issue.

For the time being I always though maybe 3d printing a new version of that plate that the bullets sit on in the mag to have a better ramp on it to get just a bit more angle when chambered would possibly be a fix.

I do notice a bit more back and forth rock on the little AR mags in our grendels in factory gen 1.5 stock, maybe there's a way you could shim backside of the mag insert to lock the mag in a little better? I didn't notice feed issues though but could see it being a thing for some. Mine went into MDT chassis so could set up quick lop adjustment for kids, may be an option for you. Run a magpul ctr butt stock and can adjust lop to fit anyone at push of a button. Little heavier in chassis but kids aint offhand shooting anything anyway and prolly not carrying it very far lol. Now my kids are not so small so I've retaken my chassis grendel and setup for me as backup/2nd rifle, still love it. One downside on chassis is tang safety, not easy to get at with pistol grip setup so I generally don't chamber one until setup and then just leave bolt handle up otherwise

As a second conclusion I finally received my suppressor, AB raptor 8. Point of impact shifted a tiny bit but the grouping stayed plenty small enough with the factory load. I still plan to test some hammers this summer. I have no idea how to post videos but here is the paper. The top left almost dead center hole is the one with the factory brake. The rest of the group that is to the right and a tick low is 5 shots with the can. That group will work for me. I’m impressed with this non impressive ruger rifle.
I’m also kicking myself for waiting so long on a can. It’s by no means a silencer but the difference compared to the factory brake is crazy.

If it’s a metal magazine you could try opening up the feed lips a touch to allow the 1st round to sit up higher in the mag.
