Who has ditched the trusted Nalgene bottle?

I use 1.5L smart water bottle. Light weight, sawyer fits on top if need be. Started it when I was thru hiking the AT and it stuck

I usually just buy a couple of water bottles at the grocery store. The Gatorade ones have a nice big opening. 2-3 of them are light. Those bottles can usually be squeezed down to content, so you don´t have that clock-clock-clok sound when moving with a half full bottle.

Now, a bottle, for me at least, can have a downside as I tend to drink a lot more from a bottle. When I'm thirsty, I can literally chug a bottle but the resistance of sucking from a bladder slows this down. This can matter when water is scarce.

I just stumbled on the “Swig Rig.” Expensive for what it is but allows dual use of one’s wide mouth nalgenes, they make a small mouth version as well.

I wouldn’t normally quote a seven year old post…But this has to be one of the dumbest things I have read on this forum. And that’s saying something.

I ran one of these last year scouting / backpacking, it worked pretty well and I didn't have to worry about the usual potential water bladder issues. I'll probably continue to run it but there's a few downsides:
-If it's over half empty, when leaning over or if your pack isn't upright you'll just suck air (usually not a problem)
-When refilling it, make sure the tube is empty so it doesn't flow back into your backpack when you remove the bottle
-I'm not the biggest fan of the bite valve they use, probably personal preference but I replaced it with a camelback one
-Slightly more difficult to pack in your bag compared to a bladder
