Which tikka flush mag for 6.5 prc

As mentioned, I printed off on of the PRC mags to see how it fit in my rifle.

The design prints really nicely in the right orientation, no supports needed.

The length is right for the long and heavy bullets.

However, when using the factory PRC mag spring the sidewalls bulge out a bit from the extra pressure. This makes the magazine hard to fit into the well and sometimes the rounds will start coming out of the feed lips

I think this is due to the longer spring in the 4rd mag. I think the design would work just fine with a 3rd mag spring.View attachment 877722
I only have the one mag for my rifle, but I might pick up an L mag and see how the spring from that works.
I used the factory spring, bent the last coil out to the same length as a 3 rd spring and snipped the remaining off and it works perfectly. Been using it for nearly a year and have enough rounds through it to be confident with it. No issues feeding. Yes it old fits two but I love these flush mags.

Edit to add I’m using the factory follower

So are you guys using the short action mags in the link, or the long action mags for your tikka stocks (super varmint specifically if it matters)? It appears Mountain Tactical is making these for Beretta, MT's website says the short action mags wont work for 6.5 PRC. Trying to verify what will work and what wont as I know 6.5 PRC has mag/loading issues, and tikka actions have issues with certain chassis so, going with both appears to be an exercise in frustration, I am trying to avoid. Thank you for the help. Trying to decide on a Super Varmint, or ACE Game in 6.5 PRC.

FYI, ended up releasing those mags I mentioned earlier as a complete magazine with spring. Both in truly flush (2rd) and a 3rd variant. @Foster_65 has some of the final / released flush fit.

So what length of your mags would you utilize for the 6.5 prc? The prc length, or the L length? I will not be reloading and using factory ammo and coal. Thank you for chiming in, and bringing this to the masses. Good on you! Ski

In mine the PRC length if never planning to exceed ~3" COAL. That should fit factory 6.5prc ammo fine and will allow 6prc to be seated long. Please note I am not recommending my L mags be used for PRC.

The factory L mags are certainly an option too for PRC. Some reasons why a person may want these 3rd PRC versus a factory L mag:
-Some folks might like the embossed PRC on the mags they use
-Some folks might want the mag to fit more closely to the typical cartridge length rather than have ~3/8" gap in front
-Some folks may like the orange option.
OR some folks might just use a factory L mag. :)

Just being transparent, some of the mags I am making offer a unique functional aspect versus the factory mags and some do not. The 3rd M+ and L mags don't have a functional difference versus the factory versions, they do have knurling and embossed label but that is just a user preference vs a truly functional difference. The orange ones offer some visibility benefits but someone could spray paint a factory mag if they wanted to.

On the other hand some of the mags I offer have increased COAL allowances, the 223 for instance as well as the 6um (WSM/SAUM brass doesn't fit in my factory L mags, it might for others so these offer a longer COAL than the WSM mags). The flush variants protrude less but cost the user a round of capacity to do so.

End of the day its just options based on user preference, if folks like those options I've made them available but there is more than one way to skin the cat.

I’m in the minority of course, but I really like my flush mounts for hunting. Having only 2 rounds in the mag does not hinder my style of hunting. I keep my chamber unloaded and when I am going on a stalk, I will pop one in the chamber so still have 3 rounds. If I need more than that, bad things happened. For a 223 trainer, a 5 or even 10 round capacity would be nice. I’ve been running the mags in prc and m+. All flush, and pre anneal and have not had a single problem. I don’t leave them in the sun and thus far have used the factory spring and follower. Haven’t had a chance to use these new mags yet but I have no doubt they will be great. I’m just very appreciative of this offer and will likely buy more just to have as I’m pretty invested in tikka at this point. Will be happy if we are able to buy bolt heads/bodies when the raven comes into production. I think it will be difficult to get a better platform other than maybe a specific short action or an arc length action but that offers is own set of problems.
