Killed my last 6 or 7 deer right up the leg in the pocket created by Humerus and Scap with my bow. All together quicker recoveries than "behind the shoulder".
I 9 with a rifle. I 7 if we wanted to save the heart meat.
Deer are so small, all four quarters and the neck were important for us to harvest when we were living off our land in Texas. Blowing out a shoulder or a humerus ruins a significant amount of meat, especially if shooting a higher caliber rifle.
If presented with the same elevation and angle in the picture....J10 with a bullet, arrow, slug or bolt. Assuming my shot is always broad side or slightly quartering, I imagine the location of the opposite side's humerus and aim for the bottom of it (from a tree). In this pic, I'm on the ground, so I'd correct by aiming for the center of the opposite humerus.
