The family, my s/o and my parents specifically have tasked with my coming up with our summer trip next year, will be mid July is that is the slow time of year for us.

They want to do Yellowstone and the Tetons.

I have been looking on Air BNB and VRBO, can anyone give me a good idea of towns to look around as far as where we should and shouldn't stay?

Don't worry we aren't transplants and will be leaving when we are done.

No real requirements other than 3 bedrooms.

Lots going on all over Wyoming in July.
End of the month is Frontier Days and no lodging near Cheyenne around that time.
About mid month in Laramie Is Jubilee Days, street dances, rodeo carnival for kids and farmers market downtown. Open container all around downtown too.
Lots of rodeos at other towns, Cody, Sheridan etc.

Saratoga is a neat little town, decent lodging and the hot spring soaking pool, good food too.
Centennial might have an AirBNB or Vrbo.

It would probably be tough to have a home base house to see both parks as it would require a good amount of driving. The West Yellowstone area would probably be the best choice if you are trying to stay in 1 house to see both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National parks. Fly into Bozeman.

We rented a house on the Yellowstone River south of Livingston in Paradice Valley and entered YS through Gardiner. We saw more elk and deer outside the park and enjoyed fishing behind the house. Beautiful area. We didn't go visit Grand Teton Park on this trip but there are plenty of options in the Jackson Hole area for rentals but they are $$$. Heading there in a few weeks. Paradice Valley is prettier than the W Yellowstone area IMO. If you get a chance, drive through the Madison River Valley through Ennis, MT. Awesome scenery there too and great fishing in the river with lots of wildlife. We saw some bighorn sheep in someone's yard.

For Grand Teton/Yellowstone lodging. Colter Bay is an amazing view, accomidations are ok.

Any of the hotels in Yellowstone and Grand Teton are at least ok. Flagg Ranch is between the two parks, and out of the way a bit. It is really super.

Jackson is crowded, very crowded. There are some nice hotels as you go up the hill. Get away from downtown.

West Yellowstone is crowded, hotels are ok.

Cody is a very different animal all together. Ranch town far out of the park.

It depends on how much time you have.

I would do an itinerary like this:

Arrive at Dubois, stay somewhere between Dubois, Togatee and Moose.

First day do a Jackson day, do Mormon barn, pick up a fishing license, fish at Teton Lake dam. See if you can do something at the fish hatchery or elk refuge.

2nd day do some hikes around Teton and transfer to Flagg Ranch.

Do the drive from Flagg to Driggs, check Driggs out.

Head to West Yellowstone, do the bear and wolf zoo, drive into the park into the evenign and look at wildlife

Next morning start into Yellowstone and head to Old faithful, fish at Yellowstone lake (different license).

You can drive around the lake if you have time. Visit geysers, and stink pots.

Next day Montana or Wyoming split.

Montana drive to Bozeman through the north park entrance. Do Bozeman, Livingston, Billings.

Or Drive to Cody, do Cody, drive to Thermopolis stay the night and swim at the Star Plunge. Stay at the Safari Holiday inn. Eat an hamburger int he Safari Bar.

Head to Casper and do Louis Talberts ranch wharehouse down town. The museum of the west, and the nicolaysen art museum.

You are really late to be booking lodging.

We did Yellowstone and Tetons last year. Went in from the west. West Yellowstone(the town) is a neat place to stay. Lots of stores and shops and touristy stuff some people like.

Leeks Marina and Pizzaria was a cool place to stop for lunch. Kinda middle of nowhere on Lake Jackson with an incredible view of the Tetons. Little marina too and the pizza hit the spot!
