Growing up we called all vehicles rigs. I suppose it could have originated from referring to another’s vehicle without knowing what they drive. ( What’s your rig? Can we use your rig? Will we fit in your rig? Etc....)
To me personally a truck is a vehicle that is intended to carry a load or cargo in or on. ( pickup truck, flatbed truck, box truck, and even an SUV with room for cargo.) And a 18 wheeler, big rig, or semi ( a mother word of unknown origin) is a TRACTOR TRAILER!!!!!! The tractor part being what you drive, not a truck.
Other person gripes.... it’s a fishing rod not a pole... it’s a magazine not a clip... it’s a cartridge or round not a bullet... and yes my hat brim is curved. That’s just my opinion. LOL
