When did a pickup truck become a "rig" ?

Growing up we called all vehicles rigs. I suppose it could have originated from referring to another’s vehicle without knowing what they drive. ( What’s your rig? Can we use your rig? Will we fit in your rig? Etc....)
To me personally a truck is a vehicle that is intended to carry a load or cargo in or on. ( pickup truck, flatbed truck, box truck, and even an SUV with room for cargo.) And a 18 wheeler, big rig, or semi ( a mother word of unknown origin) is a TRACTOR TRAILER!!!!!! The tractor part being what you drive, not a truck.
Other person gripes.... it’s a fishing rod not a pole... it’s a magazine not a clip... it’s a cartridge or round not a bullet... and yes my hat brim is curved. That’s just my opinion. LOL

Any reference to grammar or spelling patrol results in a loose man point. As does any reference to teachers pets snowflakes and triggers that aren’t electrical or mechanical in nature and which provide for the activation of a device. These are things that women argue about. Which- now that it’s mentioned- arguing will also result in a loose man pint. Men -at least those with any point retention ability say there piece and get on with the business.


Once a man point is loose in the forum it becomes up for grabs to whoever is running the coolest “kit” the hardest as evidenced by the sweetest selfies

This morning I was driving my rig to work, reached into the jockey box for something and pretty near ended up in the barrow pit.

I've noticed it a lot lately. Especially with western hunting shows/podcasts/etc that everyone refers to their truck as a "rig." Is that the commonly used term now? Or is it a regional term? Or something else?

I'm from Wisconsin, and everyone here still calls it a pickup or a truck. The only time someone uses "rig" is if they are referring to a semi tractor trailer.

If you know the answer, great. Otherwise feel free to chime in with what you call your vehicle.

About the same time everybody started "running" everything.
