What's your pregame food look like?

I think my last one was a DBL Western extra cheese and criss cut fries. Its the only time I get to eat like a fat kid and I love it!

Pretty hard to beat a Bagel stacked with cream cheese, Salami, and Prescuito, followed by and Endo Rush energy Drink... Go all day on the Combo!

Put smoked salmon on tha bagel and cream cheese and you got something going on there ;)

My fat boy rush comes from a loaded down bagel.

Thomas "Everything Bagel, toasted.
6 Slices of Canadian Bacon
2 eggs, over easy
2 slices of Cheddar
Bacon
Jalapenos
Honey Mustard

I usually hit a sub way on the way to the trail. Italian bmt loaded with veggies is pretty standard. Justin tried to get me to stop at a taco bell on the way to the rokslide hike but I told him I only packed a half roll of toilet paper

You know you never really buy food at Taco Bell, you only rent it! LOL!

I know my worst pack in was a 1000 foot elevation gain after eating McDonalds for dinner the night before. Between an unbalanced pack and crappy fried food I could feel it and now I am more cautious before pack ins.

I usually load up on a shit ton of teriyaki rice and chicken washed down with a monster rehab. Then I usually eat peanut butter M&M's and a naked juice on the dirt road to the trailhead.

It's the post hunt food that's really interesting- the worst in memory was when a buddy and I got back from a crazy expedition (one that would surely medal in the "epic pack out" thread if I had an hour or so to type it). I ordered $55 dollars of McDonald's food for two guys. In a nut shell, we ate till we puked an then started eating again.

I can't eat anything at Mc Nasty's. I don't even think it's actually food. I think it's all made at a Dow chemical plant in NJ or something. How could you scarf down even ten bucks worth ? $55 of it is crazy. I don't eat all that great when out but I at least want it to be real food ! I had a 3 bone rib lunch with home cut fries and collard greens today. Terrible for you but awsome ! There are so many great mom and pop diners across this country serving all kinds of well crafted foods that there is no way I'm heading to a fast food chain when I need to throw down some serious chow ! Part of your scouting should include finding good food nearby for when you come out. Where I've been hunting in south Georgia for years I know where there are at least a dozen country buffets that serve real home cooking. I've never been anywhere that didn't have at least some quality local food.

reminds me of hauling meat out of the mountains,, before going back in we stopped at a pizza place...OMG it was good.

well right up until we started our hike back in to base camp.....

Pro-bar and a banana or two with maybe a handful of trail-mix as I start out hiking. I cannot hike on a full stomach. I have a buddy that insists on eggs and bacon and hashbrowns in the morning. I feel like I'm dragging until at least mid morning when I have that much grease in me. Back in high school, my ski day pregame was an sausage mcmuffin with egg. We would have to leave the windows of the car down until I was done eating so my brother didn't puke.

No soda or burgers for me. I do the same as I would before a run, swim, or other workout and eat half a can of dark red kidney beans (reduced sodium and rinsed), with some almonds or peanut butter, and water to wash it down. I save my 4 cups of vegetables for lunch and dinner, however the vegetables are drastically reduced on backpacking trips. My wife thinks my diet is terrible in regards to flavor and variety.

That sounds horrible... lol I like to eat elk steak or burgers for lunch n dinner the day prior, no soda just water and milk plus as much whole wheat products as possible. Seems to work pretty good.

As littlebuf mentioned, I'll pretty much eat anything. My stomach doesn't seem to care at all.

If I'm expecting to need a lot of energy, I will eat my normal healthy food the day before.

I try to eat normal food. Salmon, Venison Stroganoff, Venison Stir Fry, stuff like that. Throw some rice with an asian stir fry and pig out. On the way to the trailhead I like to have half of a footlong sub, then pack the other half for when we stop to chow on the way in.

Night before is always same as any other night: grilled king salmon or halibut, or some type of venison dish, with lots of veggies as I seem to crave something crunchy and fresh when I'm out. The morning of is either leftovers from dinner or my regular breakfast of frozen blueberries yogurt and oatmeal. I'll throw down a bigger portions than normal but the food generally stays the same.
