What are people doing with their handheld releases during hunts

I went back to a wrist rocket. I lost a Stan in the heat of the moment with an elk. I drew back, had to let down and get a better window, left it attached and busted through some brush, went to draw again and it wasn’t there. Couldn’t make the shot and never found the release after hours searching. Since then the release has to be attached to my wrist. I couldn’t get used to hunting with a handheld on a wrist sling. It felt like it was always in the way. For hunting I just suck it up and use an index now, even though I enjoy a handheld most of the year shooting.

Mine mainly stays in the zippered pocket on my bino harness. If I’m into some animals it might go in my pocket or I just hold it while I’m crawling/stalking, etc.

All my releases have an index finger hole which makes it pretty easy to keep in my hand even while crawling around.

I also keep a back up in my pack for the off-chance I loose it.

Main in side pocket of my marsupial or on my wrist via a d loop material wrist strap. Back up in the zippered front pouch of my harness.

one of the biggest reasons I switched to a thumb release was so I wouldn’t have to have something strapped to my wrist. But I’m not walking through the woods chasing critters, mainly just a tree stand hunter. Plan on just keeping it clipped on D loop along with the Onglass clip.

I agree sitting a stand a handheld clipped on the loop is the best for me. I usually just switch to an index if I am hunting on the move. Fortunately I can go back and forth without changing my point of impact.
