What's your most accurate hunting rifle?

Remington 700 .308 by Tooley Custom Rifles. I don't know who the barrel or the stock are made by, bought it off an estate sale on GB. Near as I could find out, Tooley liked Bartlein barrels and I think the stock is either MPI or Borden, it's 23 oz. I measured the barrel twist at 1:12 with the old ramrod trick, but it could be faster than that. It's a heavy sporter, .700 muzzle. Comes in at just a hair over 8.5lbs with a Nightforce SHV 3-10, Burris steel 2 pc picatinny bases and Warne Mountain Tech rings. When I do my part with it's favorite ammo, it's usually in the .3"s for 3 shots. My best 3 shot group was .117". 5 shots will be in the .6 range, and I did a 12 shot non stop group a few weeks ago to finish off a box of ammo, it was .80". Three 3 shot groups spaced out over a few hours (barrel cold each time) stacked right on top of each other for .6". More impressive to me is the consistency of the rifle. I've tested 26 factory loads from 110gr to 178gr. 24 of those will do MOA or better for 3 shots, 17 of those will do 3/4" or better, 8 of those will do .6" or better and 4 of them will do less than .4" when I do my part. All of this is with factory ammo. I never have to worry about losing ammo on a trip, I can literally go buy just about anything and still have a MOA rifle at the worst case.

My 6.5cm tikka in a bravo. Shoots pretty much any factory ammo 1 1/4” or less.

I have two hand loads worked up that are 3/4” or less 10 shot groups

Remington 700 VS from 1999. 18 ounce Jewell trigger is the only modification. Probably paid $500 plus tax for it. Last time I was hand loading I threw together six 168 SMKs on top of 45 grains of Varget, federal 210, and new Lapua brass. I haven't used any of those in 20 years so I figured what the heck I'll see if they shoot. They clocked right at 2749 SD 11 with my Zero. It's got about 2200 shots through it. That load is probably worth tuning. In bonus points, the poi looks pretty darn close to where I want it for a 200 yd zero.

'93 Rem 700 300 wm. I also have an '92 in 06 that's almost as accurate..IMHO early 90s RM700s are hard to beat for accuracy...dont trust the factory trigger, but accurate guns.

20” barrel Tikka UPR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Loaded up 4 rounds and shot this cold bore group today. 1800 rounds down the bore and still shooting beautifully.

Remington 700 blueprinted and rebarreled with a Bartlein 3b in 6CM by Rivers bend Gun company. It just shoots everything I have ran through it well.

Stock Kimber Adirondack in 6.5cm. The only thing done to it was a bedding job and trigger adjustment. It wears an NX8 1-8x24 in Talley lightweights. The weight is 6 lbs. 3.4 oz.




It will get right around 1moa for 10 rounds with a variety of loads. This one is with N555, Alpha brass and Winchester LR primer at 100 yards. .997" which is .952moa.




Somehow I managed to get this one at 591 yards with 147's and N550. It's 4.101" for .663moa.

6.5 tikka?

Yes the CTR in the pic above it. I had it in a McRee aluminum chassis before, but put it back in it's original cheap plastic stock because I just don't care for the ergonomics of the chassis. It shoots just as well out of the original stock, and is considerably lighter.

Boy all my rifles are super accurate. Really depends on how Im shooting them on a given day. The one I shot best on most outings is my Ruger American Ranch is 7.62x39. My Tikka T3x 30-06 shoots very well but haven’t found my load for it yet.

Cooper m54 montana varminter 22-250. It shoots every load I’ve tried in it under 3/4” most under 1/2” at 100 yards. It preferred load shoots .3 moa out to 300 yards. I’ve taken a boatload of woodchucks and several deer with it. I will never part with this rifle.

X-Bolt HCLR in 6.8 Western will shoot 10 round groups just under an inch if I do my part. The rifle is far more accurate than I'm able to be in field positions.

Pretty much any good hand loads shoot well out of it. Factory ammo was a different story, even with the same bullet. Winchester needs to tighten to their QC.

Its interesting, I guess people have different ways to go about achieving the same thing. To my credit, a 3/4moa target (3” at 400) is a LOT harder for me to reliably hit than a 1moa target (a clay pigeon, which is 110mm or 4.33 inches). And both are also considerably smaller than a cow elks head at 100-200 yards. All of these are great shooting, but I remain most impressed with 100% reliability on 1st-round 3/4moa hits at 400 yards with any hunting rifle. Thats exceptional.

Would it better, if I change my expectation to "center punching" a 1 gallon water jug at 400 yds with the first shot?
