I need to pick up a new rifle cleaning kit and want opinions on what are people’s favorite. I have been using an Otis for the last couple years with the cable system. I have used the push rods before that. Looking to keep it under $75 as I have random parts abound and can add in specialties as needed. Cleaning mostly rifles 6.8, .270, .308, 12ga, 20ga.... Any recommendations appreciated , I’d rather read reviews here versus amazon. Thanks

1pc coated rod/ bore guide and boretech products is what I use when I clean a rifle which isn’t very often. Most people wayyy overclean their rifles bore.

I use a lot of Tipton products. I mainly rely on a carbon rod, brass jags, patches and a combo of solvents. I have used bore brushes in the past but as of late have been relying on solvent and patches. Heavy copper fouling, I like Sweets 7.62, and as an all around solvent I have been using Tipton Truly Remarkable Bore Solvent. It smells like ammonia but works well, even on copper fowling.

the cable types have a use in your pack or at the truck. skip the bore snake period.

many gunsmiths do not like the carbon fiber rods. they are very abrasive. however the average guy probably don't run a rod through often enough to cause wear.

solvents abound and most will work if you use them. it is handy to have 2 rods, one for the jag and one for the brush. coated or uncoated? again the average shooter will not use either enough to cause a problem.
there are arguments for and against each. just wipe it down when you get ready to push it through and it wont matter.

One piece rod, jag set, adapter for shotgun brushes should come with jag set

Weed eater stringer melted on one end for 22lr

Bore snake for travelling, small calibers weed eater

Same as others on the rod, but I like the Breakthrough solvent and oil. No smell, no harsh chemicals or hydrocarbons.

Thanks for the tips! I do like using a rod and jag on the bench. I will have to get another. I like hearing what everyone uses for cleaner and lube as there is a plethora of options. I just cleaned Frog Lube out of a shotgun and will never use that again!! Decent when it’s hot but when storing a rifle in the safe it just gets sticky. I wish i read that before using it on multiple guns.
