What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

lol no, I’m all about simplicity. But I was taught that long ago. It applies to some things but not all. I log part time, and If I’m alone it definitely applies to chain saws.
And, the principal is about having a plan B or backup plan or alternative available. I don't hunt with two rifles or bows, but sometimes take a second one or have a plan to use my buddy's if he fills his tag.

This is a list of my dad’s advice that is not completely chronicled, nor in any particular order; the views shared are not representative of the author, and may or may not be viewed as useful advice for life!

Be home before midnight, nothing good ever happens after midnight…

Don’t sh*t where you eat….

Neighbors just happen to be the people who live next door…

Don’t jump the MARTA turnstiles….

Be kind to everybody that you encounter at your customers business…

They all look the same upside down, you are better off marrying for money… 🤨

I still am trying to sort out if dad was crazy or a visionary 40 - 50 years later 🙄🤣🤣🤣

Pray as if everything depended on God and work as if everything depended on you.

You can't wait for everything to be okay to live your life.

Both favorites of mine that were serious and the following is one of many from my Dad that is more funny but also good advice.

"Don't marry a super hot chick, everyone will try to screw her. Just find a gal you have a lot in common with and enjoy spending time with."

A little bird was flying south for the winter when he got caught in a snowstorm. Between the snow on his wings and the cold wind he couldn’t fly anymore so he fell to the ground nearly frozen. He was sitting there on the concrete outside an old barn, When along came a big dairy cow who took a shit on him. He thought to himself. Geez, I couldn’t get any more miserable!

As he squatted there in a big cow pie, the warmth of it begin to warm his little body. Feeling better, he begin to sing. The barn cat heard him, came out to see what was going on. He walked up to the little bird, gave him a great big smile, and said how you doing little buddy? The little bird said, I’m feeling much better. Thank you! With that, the cat reached out a paw, snagged him out of the cow pie, and gobbled him down.

The moral of the story? Not everybody who shits on you is your enemy. Not everybody who smiles at you is your friend. And when you’re Warm and happy in a big pile of shit, keep your damn mouth shut.

As told to me, by my father, Colonel Robert L Nair, United States Army. A lot of wisdom in here if you think about it carefully.

I don’t know that it’s advice but someone told me many years ago “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.” Pretty much lived by that ever since.

I never got any hunting advice. If was was giving any I’d say to enjoy the whole experience, that’s the real goal and don’t pass ANY legal shots.

A few years into bow hunting I’d shot a couple antelope an elk and some deer. Started thinking I was something special and started holding out. Worst mistake. Ate tag soup for a few years and then the draw result drought started for me. I wasn’t hunting out of state anymore due to kids and life stuff. Now I really regret the missed opportunities. Hunt a LOT and shoot what’s there. Wish I had done that.

Hunt while you're able to, cause tomorrow you might not be able to. A cousin of mine who has lost his eye sight and ability to walk mostly due to diabetes told me that.

Watch that high headed old bitch and make sure you have a spot in the fence you can jump through. Every rancher I've ever been around

Hunt where the ducks are and keep your damn head down. Old timer at the Delevan national Wildlife Refuge hunter check station

Don't shoot at the deer, shoot at a spot on em. Quit big trying em. Granddad

A couple come to mind.
1. always make sure you work harder than the guy working next to you. You don't ever want the boss to question which one of you is the better worker. Doesn't mean kiss ass or only work harder when being watched.
2. sit still and be quiet is the best camoflage made. Told to me by a old timer that didn't own a stitch of camo but was one of the most productive hunters I've ever been around.
