The 85s are awesome rifles. I wish sako hadn’t discontinued that line of “bear” rifles. I always thought that black bear would have been a great rifle. The kodiak seemed awesome as well.

I have an 85 Black Bear in 9.3x62. It's without a doubt my favorite. I grail though would be a Bavarian Carbine in 9.3 as well.

Here’s an S20 in what appears to be the carbon fiber stock they (Sako) hinted at on their Instagram a while ago. Childerly posted this a few days ago.

Or it’s just another completely worthless roughtech version of the same stock….

Sako made their own bed… the ejection issues were inexcusable and avoidable. They refused to fix it or even address it. Then they produced models that were nothing more than a gussied up Tikka. Consumers saw right through it and just bought the Tikka. Poor execution has consequences. Sad.

Some would say the L61r was the last quality Sako! I did own one for a short time. An AV mannlicher in 338winmag, pristine condition. Never even shot it. What an idiot.

I had read online that they were going to release a new model to replace the 85 at the NRA show this year. Not sure if that is true or not.

I wish they would do a UPR with a lite barrel and factory bottom metal/mags rather than the CTR.

Wonder if you could swap sporter style bottom metal, mags in? I believe you can with CTR stock so wouldn't be surprised.

I would imagine you could but with a small gap. For hunting rifles small gaps always seem to fill with debris and that's something I would prefer to avoid with a magazine involved. That being said it's a very small gripe.

So the Sako 85 is being discontinued and the Sako S20 is now on closeout as well. That leaves us with the Sako 100 for $5,000+ and the Tikka T3x for $1,000. Any guesses on what Sako will do to fill in the product line gap?

I’m hopeful they keep the core Sako 85 action and fix the extractor position/ Ejection pattern, use faster twist rates and adopt new cartridges faster.
One thing sako will do is sure. It will give market to bergara ahah

Sad to hear that the 85’s are discontinued!
I have a 85 Kodiak chambered in 375 H&H that has accounted for lots of white packets of moose that have filled my freezers…
Always feel good with that rifle in the boat, camp, back, field, and hand.D7EB1016-670D-4036-975B-9A0E5F1B5059.jpegD7EB1016-670D-4036-975B-9A0E5F1B5059.jpeg

That's a great pic. Nice moose, indeed. An 85 Kodiak in 338 win mag has been on my list a long time, too. I think they discontinued that combo a while back, unfortunately.

If they get the S20 down to 6.5lbs with a carbon fiber stock, then it would be interesting. Not interested in an 8lb bare Sako. Already did that with an A7 Rouchtech Pro and though it was insanely accurate, won’t do that again for Western MT hunting.

Has Sako ever said anything regarding some S20s having feed issues (not stripping rounds from the mag)? I was expecting some mechanical type updates, not just stock colors.
