I'm at 18.6 without weapon, food, or water. Everything else in the pack for a hunt is on the list. But, where I hunt it hardly ever rains and rarely drops below freezing, so that helps.

9 days november deer elk combo hunt: 52 lbs last year including rifle.
4 days oct deer hunt: 38lbs including rifle.
4 days nov elk hunt: 42lbs including rifle.

I am qualifying this as "best I can remember". I have already changed out some gear this year that I hope will improve my setup. I am finding that my gear isn't extremely heavy, but I can improve the compression and packing of the gear to reduce volume.

I think my best move this year is a better rain jacket and a Kelvin light vest. Last year I was packing a rain coat, a wool sweater, and a softshell jacket.

ya im thinkin some fellas are full of shi _......... just sayin.......

yep...

i gotta say, when i hear weights like a few being thrown around, for a hunting trip, i usually picture people bailing off the mountain when weather turns or just not counting a bunch of stuff. im well over 40lbs and have alot of the lightest gear available...

This will be around my sixteenth CO. archery season.
Hopefully,I will arrow my thirteenth Elk this September.

I've made many mistakes.
But,after sixteen years of chasing Elk in CO. backcountry I have fortunately never had to bail...and I've been in some crazy chit!

You can go Super UL and be good to go.
Just not a lot of creature comforts.

I can shave about 1.5#'s off my list which would put me about 17#'s no water,no food and no bow.
I'm missing a few items like extra batteries,license/ID,Allen wrenches,para cord/extra straps...

I think part of it depends on if you are going solo or with a partner. Being able to split a tent with someone else or only having to bring one stove can take a good chunk out of your gear.

Also season matters, Late season elk is a lot heavier than archery elk

I'm at right about 20, not including food water or rifle. My new rifle is a lot lighter than last year, I am pretty excited about that. I also live in an area than gets pretty much nothing for rain in September, so that helps cut my weight.

Fully loaded for a scouting trip this last weekend I was at 29 pounds, I did have a few things in my pack that I didn't need. I'd like to cut my weight down with a new pack, either a Stone Glacier or Kuiu and a new sleeping bag, most likely a Kifaru or I might look into a quilt.

I did not weight every item but weighed the entire pack. Per manufacturer specs I should be 28.8 but my scale method says 31, no food water or bow. I can lose about a pound if I leave the range finder, case and extra battery behind. I know I am only shooting 20 yards so I am really on the fence on the range finder. I might be carrying to much stuff for 8 - 10 days but this is my first year out in 20 years. I used a gear list that was in an earlier post this year and added my stuff. I also found that gear list a helpful guide for where to lighten up things, control what I was packing. For anyone who is getting into back country hunting that list is an excellent place to start. For me it helped determine what I need to do to augment the equipment I hunted with 20 years ago before I went on hiatus. Most of my stuff was laughable in terms of today's technology but it worked and I rarely ate tag soup.

thats a solid list. do you have much time with this list?
just curious as you have items on here that arent even out or have definately not seen a season of hunting.
the plethora of cuben definately helps that pack weight, just curious on longevity vs price tag
congrats on the repeated success

So I just re-weighed my pack with my early season gear to make sure I wasn't full of it and yep, 20lbs. I don't have my bow, water or chow, but with all of that it'll probably be between 30-35lbs I am guessing. That may change depending on where I hunt the early season this year.

I guess if you exclude weapon (even though every carries one no matter how long the hunt so why exclude it?), water, food, and what they carry on their person, and leave the spotter and tripod at home getting to a 20 pound "base weight" is pretty easy, but I am more interested in what my pack weighs when I leave the trailhead loaded up with the bladder topped off and the food loaded up.

That said spotter/tripod=6 pounds, 3 liters of water=6.6 pounds, food for 7 days is roughly 11 pounds, your weapon can be anywhere from 4-9 pounds usually (in my case its 6.5). So add all that up you are looking at 30 pounds let alone what you aren't counting cause you are wearing it. So while a base weight seems impressive at first glance, its more interesting to me to know what my pack might weigh when I leave the truck and start hiking....otherwise I'll be like "man this 20 pound base weight SUCKS" ;)
