What would be the best way to go about getting into Sheep hunting in 2025, assuming you were starting out fresh today?

Not a bad plan. Mountain Goat hunts have only gone up 3-5x vs. 10x of the sheep hunts. Lot different hunt though, the sick factor increase greatly and the goat horns are not quite the same reward.

What's the sick factor, elevation sickness?

I swear I fixed that…SUCK…almost universally mountain goat hunts are in much more demanding terrain. 1/2 the time I see them I thank God that I have one and don’t need another…sheep I have a LOT of want still.

Goat hunts were more of a one and done hunt for you?

That's been my philosophy, I will definitely second that.

you have tahr and chamois but no ibex or mouflon. mouflon was available on some islands in hawaii too ...

A New Zealand Tahr/Chamois hunt does look to be about 1/4 the price of a Canadian Dall. Neither are sheep though.

In my opinion, if I was determined to get into sheep hunting badly enough, I’d move to British Columbia and hunt as a resident.

For someone starting out, I think it’s too late to start playing the points game. Way too many people ahead of anyone starting out. I’m fortunate that my son and I are toward the top end of points holders in Arizona, Nevada & Wyoming. He’s 38 and has 25 or 26 Nevada points, 26 Wyoming points and 30 in AZ. For him (and me) it makes sense to keep applying. For someone starting out, no way. I’ve already got 3 Dalls & a Desert, hunted Stone & Bighorn so I’m pretty satisfied at 67 years old. If I can hunt sheep in the 3 states I mentioned I’ll be done, I think.

The other way to get into sheep hunting is to get a job that pays $200K a year or more and save up. Or become a business owner. Finally, you could become a guide and get in a lot of sheep hunting.
