Why an arc over the cm in a bolt gun?

6mm ARC with a 108

.223 with a 77

Suppressor brought .243 to near unsuppressed ARC and brought ARC to near unsuppressed .223, I can upload those too if people want to see.

Also, after seeing what the 77TMK does out of a .223 and what the 108/109 ELDM does out of a 6mmARC on game, I sold my 7mmRM to fund a .243AI build for my own kill-everything-at-all-ranges gun. When I bought that 7mmRM, I was a whisker away from instead getting a .300WM to shoot 215 Bergers. There is hope for Old Guy Big Gun wisdom adherents! Our family has a pretty good pile of critters now killed with those bullets, no regrets!

We dont have the gen2 in the 6.5prc but do have it in 22arc. As all rugers do, it shoots good groups. You can also upgrade the trigger later if you decide to and an mdt stock when they grow a little older. Depending on recoil you can always add a brake to your can or load at lower velocities. Just fyi the threads are 1/2 on ours so you may need an adapter

i guess ill be the odd man out. i had 2 ruger americans in 270 both were trash. i sent them back and got replacements and neither would shoot worth a darn. i sold them and picked up a cz600 st3 that was a few more dollars than a ruger and im in lone it shoots amazing its super smooth,and its threaded.on a side note i got a ruger ranch in 5.56 that just shoots,i had to polish it up a bit to get rid of the zipper noise but its a shooter.

Any factory rifle is a crap shoot. I've had three Ruger americans. One was a predator in .223 that had a bolt lift so stiff you could not work the rifle from the shoulder and it wouldn't shoot anything I tried into less than 1.5 for three shots. Another was an American ranch in 7.62x39 and it shot amazingly, even steel cased military ammo would go into less than an inch for five shots. Premium ammo was much better. I couldn't get past the magazine system, I didn't like that it locked the bolt open when it was empty. The other one I had was a special run stainless in the very first generation that had been cut and threaded at 18 in, in 223. It was a slow twist Barrel and it didn't even have the cut out in the bottom of the action for AR compatibility. So it literally was first generation. The action on that rifle felt as about as good as anything other factory rifle that I had at the time, no zipper noise and smooth as can be.

I bought two Tikka T3 rifles when they first hit market a coupl decades ago, one in .223 and one on 30-06. I only kept them a couple of months before I sold them, I just was not impressed with him at the time. I had several other rifles that shot rings around both of them, with the words Remington, Winchester, and Savage on the actions. They are obviously better rifles now, or they wouldn't have the following that they do. I'm still just not that interested in them though. I keep debating one in .223, but I'd rather have a .223 with 1-7 for the heavy bullets after playing with a few other rifles that were 1-8.

On the topic of cheap Ruger Americans, the new Glenfield Model A is just a Gen 1 American re-release.

A 1 in 9" twist, 20-inch threaded .243 for ~$450 is a lot harder to argue against just grab a few pounds of 95 TMKs and call it good enough.

A 1 in 9" twist, 20-inch threaded .243 for ~$450 is a lot harder to argue against just grab a few pounds of 95 TMKs and call it good enough.

I was actually looking at this rifle/bullet combo last night.

I know it’s not the most accepted on here but I was looking at that rifle/bullet combo, Arken EPL 4-16 in SWFA rings and the new Lyman OTB can (if it’s decent) as a budget setup.

I think a person could kill a lot for right at $1k.

Got the Gen II in 6CM when they first came out. It's a shooter for sure. The trigger is my dislike, I will put Timney or something else in. Otherwise it serves it purpose. It's accurate. I need to get my hands on a used Ranch so I can do the 300 Ham'r conversion, make a great truck gun.

Look at the new Savage 110 CORE models, all new adjustable stock with no tools, supposedly smoother bolt, shorter threaded barrels available, lots of modern cartridge options as well as the old standards. A bit on the heavy side, and even paying big bucks for the carbon barrel doesnt help all that much. Also $3-400 more than a RA G2, but worth a look.

It's insanely crisp and a significant improvement over the creep in the stock trigger. Gun was already shooting extremely well. But, this trigger is worth the upgrade, imo.

My unbraked, unsuppressed tikka superlite 6.5 cm is easier on the shoulder with a limb saver recoil pad shooting 140 grain accubonds, than my dad’s 4 port braked 6.5prc Winchester xpr shooting 143 grain eld-x. A suppressor on that gun would make the recoil worse than the brake.

~200fps absolutely isn’t worth the additional recoil at the distances your kids are realistically going to be shooting.

My dad’s XPR is a tack driver and the trigger is just as good as the tikka from my perspective. Sample size of 1, it’s a budget gun I’d buy.

I’m with everyone else, get your kid a .243/6 creed or at most a 6.5 creed.

None that i can tell. Just went and dry fired it 10x to check and couldn't see/feel any.

set screw through the trigger or trigger guard will fix any over travel..............

I've done that several times myself over the years. What I do find a bit humorous is that people REALLY get hung up about overtravel.... but in the accuracy disciplines like F-class, BR, and such.... lots of those shooters use as much overtravel as possible in the trigger to keep from hitting a wall in the pull before the projectile leaves the barrel.

Well, here’s a conclusion post. Ended up getting the ruger gen 2. 20” 6mm creedmoor. Found a good deal on a vx5 and slapped that on there. First 5 shots were off paper, cleaned barrel then dry patched it. The next 15 shots are shown. I’m pretty impressed so far and think the kids will do just fine behind this gun.

Nothing is wrong with those. They are good for the money. Lots of features for the price, fluted barrels, threaded barrels, rail for the scope. I have a friend who got one with some cheap vortex scope for 550.00 or something cheap like that. He’s taken lots of animals with it and dosent baby the gun.

Edit to add: the one my friend has is a 6.5 creedmoor which would be better for your kid. That said, they make some even better ones like 6cm etc…

Love the Ruger American at its price point it is really hard to beat. Have a gen 1 in .223 that is fantastic rifle for the 400 bucks I paid for it. Hard to argue with a threaded barrel and accurate rifle out of the box for under 500 bones, gen 2 seem right in there! Love that they are producing 6 arc and 6cm out the factory with appropriate twisting, seems like a no brainer solution for a

What is wrong with a ruger American gen 2 20” suppressed 6.5prc low end scope for the kids to grow up on? Lop gets pretty short which is nice for my 7 year old. Also its pretty low in weight. Only deer, antelope and bears will fall to this gun. 500 yards or less. Most likely run hammer hunters as I have really enjoyed them in my 300wm the last 7 years and everything has died very well for me. I know the tikkas are well talked about but I’m trying to keep this cost way down for what it is. I don’t have a desire to buy a factory rifle and then pay to have it cut down and then buy a new stock as well. The ruger seems to fit the bill the best, numbers wise. I’ve been out of the buying rifles game for a long time and am trying to figure out my research now, to purchase in two months or so.

I dislike the factory trigger of my new Ruger American Ranch gen 2 5.56 rifle and expect my Timney trigger to arrive to my mailbox today. Timney factory set the trigger at 2 pounds.

Ruger Americans for the money are very hard to beat. No they aren't as refined as guns double their cost but their out of the box accuracy is superb. A $15 mcarbo spring cleans up the trigger, a little polishing and wet sanding the bolt cleans up the action, and any aftermarket stock fixes the cheap feel of the stock. I love my Rugers. With that being said these new Savage 110's that are coming out look like they could be very nice bargain guns too.
