WI lab breeder recommendations

People not really into dogs have no clue but I hold the srs dogs in very high regard . Ron Anderson and rip had a good run at the NARC
Was just listening to a podcast today with Ron talking about Rip. My pup is closely related to Rip on his Studs side.

One thing that really concerns me about some of these higher end breedings (FC, SRS, GRHRCH, MNH, ect) is the prevalence of ligament injuries and early-onset cancers.

Seems like you can't talk about some of these great dogs without hearing something in that realm. Idk if its related to training or their octane level or if it's truly something in the genetics of these top performers. But it makes me hesitant. And I say this as a guy who would like to have a competitive dog in the future.

You also can't rule out the environment. a lot of these dogs are training frequently in treated field/ponds. Plus they've conclusively linked slippery indoor floors to ligament injury rates, and you'll never see that in pedigrees. Even in humans they've recently started to see that what we thought were genetic issues running in families were actually shared environmental exposures.

Who are those dogs?

Is it really that bad or is it there are so few of them it sounds bad.

I will allow myself to say a thing or two about the GSP.
There are many drastically different types of GSP that behave and hunt differently as well.
Within in your area you will likely find 5 types.

1. Cover dog GSP - Ruffed grouse trail dog.
2. NGSPA - high drive, horseback trail dog.
3. NAVHDA type GSP - Versatile dog.
4. German club GSP - They are similar to #3 but have unique traits not found in other GSP types.
5. Mix of all these types.

The price will also be different.

I have never seen a true NGSPA GSP so don't know much about the specifics. The breeders for the rest of types can be found of their respective websites.

And for GSP’s Wisconsin is home to some of the best breeders/lines. Especially in the NAVHDA arena if OP is looking for a versatile dog.

Wisconsin is home to one the best dogs for most of the hunting dogs, maybe apart from the horse back trail dogs which is mostly the southern or western thing.

The best, GSP/DK or GWP/DD or Pudelpointers come from WI. My dogs are from WI too.

No affiliation, but you could make that dream come true this week

Im getting a pup this end of winter spring time. Those are going to be monster dogs not for the first time handler. Cosmo, Carbon, Fox, and Grady those are all dogs that can get with it

This is the stud i would like one out of I have got to see Eric and puck run a bunch and he is nice and he isnt super big. Puck has a couple litters on the ground now timing just isnt right or i would be on them

Mine has an off switch. After you run him twice a day on Marks and Blinds and Water work etc. LOL.
Thats as much training as it is genetics most new handlers wont put the obedience on them they need to get that off switch. If i had a dollar for every time i have heard he doesnt act like this at home or training when at a test after that flyer is shot i would be rich.

My dogs are quite similar too. They only need an hour of morning run and 7-10 long distance retrieves and they will be laying at my desk for the rest of the day. Once or twice in a month I do a dead drag or hide a pigeon or two. That makes them very happy, but even without that, the daily walk and randomized drills make them relaxed and disinterest in naught activities. The brain engagement is more important for a working than just mindless walks or runs.

An acquittance of mine has a GSPxSetter mix. He is a hunting machine but is such a disruptive dog that doesn't matter how tired he is, he is just being erratic and bugger barking all day. To the point that the wife told him he won't get laid until the dog is out. lol. He is trying to rehome him. Some dogs can't be fixed by the average hunter.
