What is hunting to you ?

Lot of nostalgia in this post. I see that alot in old Fudds past their prime. They have either killed tons of game and burned out or no longer wish to put in the effort to push hard for success.

Now take the young hunter limited experience. Even more limited funds to buy the best equipment or guided hunts. Desperate to tag an animal, any animal really. Who could honestly blame him for baiting or using the best equipment he can borrow or acquire.

I was in that situation once. Guess everyone moves through different stages as they age. Just seems to me that so many posts come off holier than tho. JMO

At 9 years younger than my nearest sibling, I was an aftershock in my family. I was into sports and playing in the worst band of all time, so I didn’t really hunt seriously growing up. When I went to college, I really got the bug.

My dad was happy I had gained the interest to hunt, but he was on in years and didn’t get around like he used to. I had done all of the preseason scouting and remember his reaction when I showed him the canyon we’d be hunting. He told me he would stay up high in case anything got pushed up.

A few hours later, I remember taking a peak at him through my binoculars. He’s obviously asleep with his pre-64 M70 leaned against a stump. A 3x3 is 30 yards to his left, as safe as can be.
