Bucket List Hunt

I’m not necessarily old at 55, but I’ve had family and friends pass prematurely that’s got me wanting to start checking some hunts off my bucket list. I decided last fall I’d like to kill a bear, so I randomly found a lease in southeast Oklahoma with bears on it. Season isn’t until October, but I decided to put out bait and a camera to try to get pictures of the bears there.
I didn’t know anything about bears or baiting them, so I started watching utubes and consulting an internet friend in Wyoming that’s an avid bear hunter. I figured out pretty quick that bears will eat about anything, because every single utuber has their own concoction that’s supposedly “the best”. I used deer corn, chunk dog food, and horse sweet feed as a base, and I doused it in fryer oil, molasses, and dollar store syrup. I also added a bunch of old stuff out of my freezer to the pile.
After a week, I’m very excited to have 3 different boars coming in. I live a little over 4 hours from the lease, but my plan is to go up once a month all summer to refill the barrel. I’m actually working on an idea to build a type of feeder with a timer to hopefully keep feed in the barrel longer.

Sweet set up!
In our area (northeastern Ontario) a lot of the guys use smaller holes in the bait barrel so the bears can’t get their whole paw in, but more like a finger or two and they have to roll the barrel for some to come out, keeps them from having to fill as often.
