National guard or military? I’m not saying it’s bullshit, but try to think of the manpower and resources needed to truly lock down a city like San Francisco or even the entire bay area. It worked, somewhat, in China for a lot of reasons. Most of which the majority of Americans will not have a very fond view of and may not react the best too. When law enforcement is overwhelmed who is called upon to enforce things?
It’s not just the releasing of inmates, large police agencies are going hands off. Take a report over the phone, issue a summons through the mail, good luck to you. I know there are some that expect criminals to all of a sudden find Jesus but let’s be real, criminals are going to criminal that’s how they live. The dope and gun trade are not going to shutdown for the Covid-19. If anything I would expect to see an increase in activity. At least four states in the U.S. have started to release inmates from their jails to protect vulnerable inmates as coronavirus infections have begun to appear from within.
Italy just passed china for # of dead. China leveled off (supposedly) but they locked down a few hundred million people fairly quickly.
Free societies may not be able to pull that off....spring breakers are about to go back home which will really accelerate the rise of infections. I was very skeptical of restrictions but now I realize that they may be the best solution.
My son is a paramedic and I hope he stays safe but he is 100% likely to contract kung flu.
I feel the exact same way. At first my initial reaction to this was "oh, this is a complete overreaction", now, i am not thinking as such. As much as people want to believe this isnt serious and everyone is over reacting and that this is nothing more than a simple cold, i really dont think it is. I wont even dive into the screwball, tinfoil hat conspiracies people are spewing forth, so i will simply say this shit is serious. Why else would world leaders be willing to cripple their countries? I also think we are in this for the long haul and we have yet to see the worst of this. Testing at this stage is a joke. The next two weeks are going to be very telling as to how this shit will turn out.A week ago I thought all this was an overreaction. Now I agree with Zap. I’m afraid the initial reports from China seemed much more hopeful than reality. Either China is misreporting, or they are the best in the world at handling this sort of thing. The latter may actually be the truth. Being a totalitarian government, they can just lock down everyone without regard for their people’s rights or comforts. They’re also the most industrialized nation in the world. They manufacture all the world’s good, including health care equipment. Add to this, their lack of codes, history of dealing with this sort of thing, healthier population than the US, cultural fear of disease brought on from SARS, and you get the original reported 3 percent death rate of primary older people. The reality for the rest of the world may be much more grim. Maybe 10 percent death rate for all ages? I hope I’m wrong, but I’m starting to worry. I’m not a prepper type, and I don’t usually worry about stuff in general.

The whole western world is soft in many ways...
I think the using our resources on testing is a big mistake. Testing doesn’t help the situation much. It’s just desirable to satisfy our curiosity. Also, it will help spread the disease. Think about it, much of our health care workers are being used, and exposed to the virus for testing. All sorts of people will be exposed unnecessarily by going to testing facilities for allergies or the cold. In the end, the only thing that is necessary is our ability to treat life threatening symptoms. We need to put all of our efforts into keeping people alive!
