I picked up Jack Atcheson's "Hunting Adventures Worldwide" and read it in one night. Just great stories he tells of some of his hunts over the years. I really enjoyed it a lot.

Sheep and Sheep Hunting by Jack O'Connor. Pretty much a classic.

Patrick F. McManus: The Night the Bear Ate Goombaw Very funny short stories that probably have some of his own adventures growing up as a child thrown into the mix. Any of his books of short stories are great reads.

Another vote for "Undaunted Courage" and another is "The Morning River" and it's sequel. Can't remember the author as it's been awhile but they were great reading of the fur trade era.

I usually read books about someone/something getting killed, whether it's a military based read (fiction, non-fiction, no matter), or hunting,... But the book I'm reading now is TOTALLY different, and it's been a pleasure I hadnt expected.

"What's So Amazing About Grace"

I've recommended it to numerous people, and they have all also enjoyed it immensely.

I am not a big reader at all. I never have been. With kids it seems like I never have the time. Well, I do like watching the TV and playing xbox too. Is 48 too old for xbox? I have only read a few books in my adult life cover to cover. Tom Foolery 2000 was a great turkey hunting book. Marine Sniper - the story of Carlos Hathcock. I did go out and buy American Sniper. As a citizen of MN I felt obligated to help make up for our x gov idiot lawsuit. I do plan on reading that when I can. I too am a fan of the old Holy Bible.

If you enjoy Native American history "Crazy Horse" by Mary Sandoz is excellent. I've read 6-8 times over the years. "Islands in the Stream" by Hemingway is one of my favorites as well. Any of Hemingway's short stories on fishing are also excellent.

Gierach is a blast to read. Who knew life and fly fishing were so interwoven, and fun?!

Anything by John Geirach, I really enjoyed Meat eater and A scavengers guide by Steven Rinella. The last Buffalo hunter by Jake Mosher is a really good one too.

For those who are looking for a spiritual christian book, please consider "What's so amazing about grace", by Yancey. It is one of the most insightful and beautiful books I've ever read.

For sure. I've been reading Gierach's books now for probably the last 25 years or so, give or take. Currently reading A Lousy Day in Paradise. I'm also reading A Beast the Color of Winter by Douglas H Chadwick.

Just finished up Larry Bartlett's Float Draggin' Alaska and going to start American Sniper one of these days here soon. Also read the first 4 or 5 books of the Joe Pickett series by CJ Box last fall and will grab the next couple before I head back to the hills this fall. Pretty good series about a Wyoming game wardens adventures - pretty easy read and a great way to unwind in the wall tent before falling asleep.

I am always reading or listening to something. I like to shake it up a little with my reading material because I find it keeps me more interested. The only constant is it has to be Non-Fiction. I rarely read fiction (1 in 3 years - World War Z). So the last 6 have been ...

We are Anonymous - Great read for someone like me who works in tech industry. 9/10

Pilgrim's Wilderness - Good book but disturbing and sad story. 8/10

Dirty Wars - Bah. Was mostly a chance for the author to let the world know how much he hated the Bush administration. 4/10

The Red Circle - Listened to the unabrided audio version - Fine, but hte author previewed each chapter before the chapter (like a 10 min preview). 5/10

When Giants Walked the Earth - BAD ASS. I like Zeppelins music, and man this book was great. 10/10

The Climb - I'm awed by Everest and keep telling myself one day I'll try. This book is a must read about the other side of the 1996 disaster. Especially if you have read Into Thin Air. 9/10

Right now I'm finishing up to Seal Survival Guide. It is ok most is common sense stuff.

Just finished Killing Patton and 'Missoula' by Jon Krakauer - both of which had some tough parts to get through. Currently reading Meat Eater, but it hasn't captured me like American Buffalo did; still a good read though.

I agree with what you said about American Buffalo. The more I read, the more I didn't want his hunt to end.

Some great suggestions so far.

I'm reading "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Great book. Definitely not one you speed read though. More like read a few lines, then think on it. I'll have to read some Patrick McManus after this one... LOL.
