I read a lot while hunting/camping. Not so much the rest of the time. Lately I've been working my way through Steve Rinella's books and most recently been reading The Scavengers Guide to Haute Cuisine.

I picked up a kindle this year to take hunting, and downloaded a lot of public domain books for free. Have some Daniel Boone stuff to start reading next. Will never run out of books to read while hunting with the kindle.

Couldn't agree more, it's my all time favorite book. Have you read The Revenant? Same story but different perspective, well worth a read also

Revenant is being made into a movie being filmed in Calgary right now starring Tom Hardy.

Just finished "Boys in the Boat"....i'm hoping my 16 yr old son will read it.

Its the story of the 1936 [?] US olympic rowing team....but mostly a period piece of growing up in the NW during the depression years...and the rise of Hitler in Germany before the war. Its pretty good.

Like the no quit attitude of the blue collared boy this centered around.

I teach high school English and history, so I'm pretty much always reading. Right now I'm reading (for myself) Angle of Repose, a fiction book about the history of the American West by Wallace Stegner. His book Beyond the Hundredth Meridian, which tells the story of John Wesley Powell and the birth of the science of land management in the west, is one of my favorite non-fiction books. I think it's a must read for anyone who wants to understand life and land and politics in the West.

Stegner, a Canadian by birth, is an "undiscovered" gem, his superb short story, "Carrion Spring" ranks with Lowry's "The Forest Path to the Spring" as an example of flawless depiction of the reality of Canadian life. His writing in that piece is reminiscent of the immortal Joyce's "The Dead" and I wish more people were exposed to his work.

Check out "The Dangerous River" by RM Patterson. It is his memoirs of his travels along the Nahanni River in the early to mid 1900's by canoe and dog sled. A real story of backcountry travel and adventure. Lots of hunting, canoeing, trapping and prospecting. One of my favorite books of all time. Every time I read it I get fired up to take off on another adventure.

What did you think of his buffalo book I just ordered it after reading meat eater

My favorite book of all time.

I used to not read anything but magazines until I stumbled onto the CD version of the book during a random trip to the local library. After listening to it on CD, I went and bought a copy and read it right away. I've been reading ever since.

Right now I'm working on Great Plains by Ian Fraizer. It's the kind of book you don't want to read too fast because that means it will end.

Tom Hardy? I had heard Leo DiCaprio, if it is true with Hardy, my excitement for the movie just went way up.

Edit: I see Leo is playing Hugh, Hardy must be playing Bridger or Fitzgerald.

yep, old school tough

Someone mentioned Mitch Rapp- one of my favorite series if you like action/military characters with a slap to the politically correct crowd
Vince Flynn is the author and all are excellent action/fiction- best to start in the beginning, IMO.
