Waterboarding yourself

1000% on only using distilled H2O.

Two more suggestions...one is heat it up in the microwave to closer to body temp, and second, because it is buffered saline (sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate), it makes a perfect eyewash for when irritants get in one's eye.

So, stomach acid issues can contribute significantly to sinus issues. Something to be aware of.
Yard work can also be a very big contributer as can time in the woods. I wear a mask for some of the landscape work.

I used something like this on my daughter just about daily because she was so snotty. Turned out she needed ear tubes for her sinuses to clear and since she got that procedure hasn't had any issues

I've used these dozens of times but cant seem to get it into the sinuses. I think it just does a loop in one nostril and out the other. Never feel it go "up" anywhere else. Probably just my anatomy, but my mom said I'm not supposed to share about my anatomy on the internet.

As previously mentioned, definitely warm up the water - cold water is quite uncomfortable. Obviously not too warm , hot doesn't feel good either.

The Vicks system recommends leaning your head "forward and to the side". I do it over the sink and with a good squeeze of the bottle it definitely gets into the sinuses. I microwave the distilled water for about 30 seconds to get it just over lukewarm.
