A couple of my unpopular opinions…

Wide is the gate that leads to destruction

22lr is great for CC

my grandfather grew up in southern Utah and probably killed more (and bigger) deer with a .300 savage with open sites, (and then later a 4x weaver scope) than most people on here will ever dream of but the one set of antlers of his that I still have hanging in my garage is a 36" 6x7 that he killed with a .22 LR because he forgot his .300 that day. And yes we still have the .300 savage and have killed deer with it ourselves.

Gotta have some fun, it's cold outside today, I can't spray weeds, I don't feel like grabbing a shovel and digging a trench for wire that needs run, it's too wet to cut the old growth down with the tractor or zero turn, and the wife isn't home to play with her, and I haven't felt like setting out traps and running them everyday.

Why not mess with some of you? CC concealed carry or critter control. Concealed carry is a given, right now my mind is own critter control, but my attitude isn't.

If one's attitude and persistence isn't there, not much else matters.

oh hell yah..i hate replaceable blade knives, I keep one in my pack just in case... but i really do hate using the thing. However I would argue about nymph fishing. I love dry fly fishing but i will outfish most dry fly guys (self included) 10:1 with nymphs. even in the middle of a great hatch... or maybe especially in the middle of a great hatch. Black tails.. yes and no. I get two tags here in California.. one where i hunt primarily public land. I hunt my ass off for a decent buck, usually get one but its tough hunting. My other cali tag I get to hunt some cool private land and it is basically grocery shopping. So pressure matters.

If it was all about catching fish, then you might as well fish with standard gear.

Tikkas suck and are over rated.

The Rokstok might be the ugliest thing I have ever seen and don’t think its worth the money they are charging.

The new MRC Marshall seems like a huge waste of money. They still sell MRC rifles on gunbroker with free Africa hunts because they can’t move them. You are paying an additional $2k for QC is what it amounts to.

Shooting North American game in or right behind the crease is not the perfect broadside shot and we should stop teaching that. Most people, especially inexperienced hunters, shooting for the “crease” actually aim at the shadow of the crease and they’ll almost always shoot further back on the animal and miss the heart and just get double lung (still lethal yes, but more margin for error and tracking)

In reality, if they shoot an inch in front of the crease, that’s a dead center heart shot

To test the fun meter with nymph vs dry flies, a 1st grader visiting the house was very interested in watching me tie flies, so I had them design and tie their own. Kids love arts and crafts and after the crude legs and round fuzzy body, what I assumed would turn out like a black beetle or nymph of some kind actually matched a big house fly with a big crude wing. We waterproofed it, went to the local kids pond and on the very first attempt at a roll cast had multiple takes, which were so exciting it caused the new fly caster to freeze, unable to talk, move, or set the hook at all. Anything that causes total immobilization from the excitement of the moment pegs the fun meter. lol

Bipods. Eff me.

Maybe I'm just bitchin cause I don't wanna drop the coin, but I used to kill game, and shoot 1000 yard matches with a 70$ Harris bipod.

Now I'm not sure I could shoot 100 yards without a 500$ bipod.
