I understand that it’s probably not a linear progression, but I have been scratching my head wondering why they don’t offer a 10” version. That would be more volume. Maybe it just doesn’t decrease the sound that much more? I personally have gotten so used to having a 6” can sticking off the end of my rifle that the idea of a reflex suppressor that is 4+6 or even 6+6 sounds appealing to me if it gets it significant sound reduction.
Of course, in a really perfect world, I could get an integrated suppressor barrel that would fit on my T3X for $1000.

Not at all surprised with these results. The AB Raptor 8 is superb.got out camping this weekend and took just a few minutes to shoot over the sound meter. I was kind of surprised with the results. I set the sound meter up for max DB hold using the LPK format. This measures the absolute peak max sound pressure without doing any averaging or manipulation internally. Most acoustic sound meters would read something that is quieter than what I got unless similarly configured.
The cans tested are
Jk armamenk rcx 155 3 baffle configuration 5in
PWS BDE 556 Full stack 6.5in
AB A10 .308 6.5in
AB RAPTOR 8 3.5 reflex 9.5in oal 22cal
UM OG 4in reflex 8in oal

(Crocs intentionally in picture.)
I was pretty rushed for time so I just tested things quickly. I took two shots with each can and recorded the highest number. I used my 223 shooting a reasonably hot load of varget 73ELDM.

Sounds was measured roughly at shooters ear location.
Jk 155 138.7
PWS 134.3
AB A10 133.5
AB RAPTOR 8 127.6
UM OG 134.5
You going to get one so we can try it?Yeah the OG vs an AB 8 w/reflex contrast highlights the niche of the OG. It’s not the amount of suppression that is impressive, it’s doing what it does with such little added footprint that is awesome.
I agree raptor 8 or 10 likely fits the bill for that.
It’s worth remembering the intent of the UM OG is specifically a can optimized for hunting with non-magnum rifles. Once the goal of “hearing safe” is achieved in these rifles, there’s little value to making it bigger/longer/quieter.
Not saying your desired can wouldn’t be nice, but it’s different than the focus of the OG.
Nice thing is you can just get a raptor 8 with 5” reflex.I understand that it’s probably not a linear progression, but I have been scratching my head wondering why they don’t offer a 10” version. Go buy a 338 can if you want the quietest possible. You’re asking about options that already exist on the market. They’re trying to do something different that is purpose driven for Hunting. You want something else. That’s totally fine. Don’t think they need to bastardize what this one is to duplicate things that already exist.I just don’t see the point of getting it just down to hearing safe. I want to minimize my noise signature as much as practicable. Unless I misunderstood the whole “tone” discussion on the podcast, I thought the argument in favor of the OG is that the OG’s tone made it “sound quieter” than its competitors at the same decibel level. And particularly from the target’s perspective. Wouldn’t that be even more true if it had a lower decibel level and a better tone?
I absolutely hate shopping for suppressors because they are expensive accessories that shouldn’t be necessary at all. They should be an integral part of the rifle in the first place. Not some clunky thing you stick on the end. And, for all that I spend what I think is a good amount of time doing research and due diligence, it never seems like I can find the information I really need to make a good decision.
I just feel burned because I got a Scythe before all the reports came out about them blowing up. The 6”, 7.3 oz, 132.6 db w/ .308 and 20” barrel sounded great in theory. In practice, I have not been blown away by the Scythe (nor has it blown up yet). With my 6.5 Grendel CZ 527 with a fairly heavy 18” barrel, the balance point is just a little more forward than on the unsuppressed 24” version.![]()
If the AB Raptor 8 had a publicly available sound rating and I had listened to Form’s comments about reflex suppressors a year ago, I might have chosen differently. But now I feel like I am in a situation where I have something I don’t really want, but no real way of knowing whether a replacement will be better.

I listened to the podcasts about the OG. I was intrigued. The premise makes sense. I just don’t understand why they made the OG the way they did when they really could have made it to blow away all the other options. It seems like it has built in limitations that I just don’t understand why.
Also, I am looking forward to seeing and hearing about the test results for this can. I don’t want a repeat of the Scythe Ti fiasco. The promise of what testing would be done sounded great, but I need to see it.

It isn’t “just” hearing safe- it’s 132 to 133dB at the ear.
If you want max suppression, then just get a 20” long can that weighs 40oz. If you don’t want that- then there are things that matter more than just max suppression.
All I really want to know is the measurables for the OG vs “the competition.” Everything is a trade off. But if we don’t know the real tradeoffs, then we can’t make decisions.

Assuming that's a 3" Reflex on the AB, it's a bit more than 9" OAL.just listing the numbers is not a great reflection of how my ears perceived them. I definitely think there’s a strong argument for tone playing a significant role in perception. To my ears and a couple other buddies the UM was second quietest of this group.

This. When people are buying a suppressor, they're primarily thinking sound suppression, not "thunk, whack, wingding, etc" IMO.Assuming that's a 3" Reflex on the AB, it's a bit more than 9" OAL.
Take the OG recipe and stretch it to 5-6" in front, with 4-5" OTB and it would get a lot quieter.
