Short answer: zero retention matters.

The UM rings are solid! If mounting on a pic rail, then my choice is ARC M-Brace rings.

Nearly identical option for less cash and a slightly lower mount in 30mm? Sportsmatch T084…good to a 44mm obj on the factory lite barrels.

Agree with the above. Compared to UM lows, T084 are lighter, a bit cheaper, mount the scope slightly lower and have a great/equal track record from what I’ve read. I’ve had both and much prefer the UM/Sportsmatch direct mount to a rail. Fewer fasteners to (possibly) fail, definitely lower (for factory stock purposes) and both have a recoil pin.

I’d say it’s a toss up between UM and Sportsmatch depending on your priorities but I’d take both over a rail setup.

Nope, what helps things sell is when they perform as they should. A Toyota Corolla isn’t popular because it’s cool, it’s popular because it just flat works. Scopes that work sell, it’s the reason SWFA has such a great following.

There’s a difference between marketing and unbiased demonstrations revealing what works well/what doesn’t.

The UM rings are nice. Compared to the Sportsmatch the UM rings have more recoil pin options (so better placement options), and nitrided screws (so no rust). The Sportsmatch are lighter, lower, and cheaper for something that does the job equally well.

I like my UM rings more than my Sportsmatch.

But, I don't like moving a scope from one Tikka to another with the UM rings. You cannot put the scope on a non-T3/T3x without pulling the rings. For me, this has been enough that I'm switching over to glued on pic rails and NF UL rings. This is the most expensive approach.

-Sportsmatch T084 1.59 inches
-UM lows 1.65 inches
-NF UL lows (on Area419 20 MOA rail) 1.69 inches

I forget who but someone sells a tikka pic rail that has a recoil lug
If your gonna be bonding them might as well have another point of contact

Area419, Mt Tactical, and SRS rails all have recoil lugs.

The MT Tactical is 6061 aluminum as I'm bolting Ti up to them, I prefer harder material.

Area419 and SRS are both 7075 aluminum and it comes down to if you want lugs in the center section of the rail or not.

Maven in general isn't gold, that specific model they fell into a set of specs that proved durable which puts it on a short list of scopes that do. It became a rokslide sweet heart because it had a better reticle than the durable trijicons and nightforce and generally tended to be cheaper. SWFA wasn't in stock and other scopes that usually hold up were generally out of production. So it just happened to hit a sweet spot of a scope that consistently worked more than other models/brands at a price point. Nothing more or less to it.

Running the UM ultra lows with a Trijicon credo 3-9x40. They seem very well built and I like the direct mount to the rifle. With the ultra lows you don't have a ton of room to move the scope back and forth. It took a bit to find the sweet spot but it's just about perfect. I haven't tried the maven but the Credo has great eye relief.

Looks just right. I usually go for the lowest mounting also and sometimes need yo order a second set of higher rings to make things fit.

Max ring spacing is a scope's BEST friend. Everything below zero on an erector,is 100% fhuqking USELESS. I typically drive 40 MOA Mountain Tac' rails. Hint.

But.. for hunting, isn't everything over the minimum fps required to reliably expand kinda useless too? Meaning, if my scope dials beyond that without a 40 moa rail, what's the benefit of a rail?

My 223 is a 400ish yard hunting rifle so I don't need to dial. I also wanted a lighter scope with a smaller bell so I could get my scope lower. When I bring the rifle to my shoulder my eye lines up with the scope. I have a rail in another rifle but not this one.
