ULUL Stainless/Portless 6x45 16" AR15 Barrel Group Buy NOW CLOSED

Brought my ULUL barrel along for a few rounds. I was using the 5x microprism, and didn't have bino's or go down range to check accuracy. This is just load data:

87 Vmax, LC Brass, CCI41, LVR, 2.3" OAL - 25gr 2375fps, 25.5gr 2413fps, 26gr 2529fps, 26.5gr 2565fps

87 Vmax, LC Brass, CCI41, 8208xbr, 2.3" OAL - 23gr 2475fps avg (3)

Primers and brass looked great.

I had some issues chambering rounds - I probably need to polish feed ramps a little, but otherwise seemed fine.

Sorry I couldn't get an accuracy check done.

I'm not sure how much more powder can fit at 2.3" OAL. I can go to 2.39" OAL in my filed down TNA lower. I suspect I can push 2600-2650fps with LVR and 87vmax.

This is pushing 400 yards for recommended minimum velocity. This bullet is known to kill down much lower. I will never shoot this gun at an animal past 200 yards given the optic I've chosen, so this is all really academic.

I am not placing a high priority on developing a load with it right now, but I will load some a little hotter and find the limit. Once I do that I'll load 10 with each powder and see what happens.

I'd be very, very interested to see your accuracy results.

Update:

We are waiting on our Alpha reamer to show up and I am going to replace the barrels, the chamber reamer we used is set for the Lake City thick neck cases. The new Hornady brass doesn't like the extra free bore from what I've heard from Kyle. Hopefully it shows up in the next few weeks. The only thing that gets me is that, all the other 6x45's we sell with our med/heavy profile on our store, we haven't got any complaints about. Anyways I will be in touch with updates.

End update.

Anyone try Lake City brass to check neck thickness? I can't imagine when expanded to 6mm that it's that thick. Either way, glad for their stand-up response.

Stu’s mention of thick neck brass was the first time I’d ever heard of it.

I did some limited searching and couldn’t come up with anything.

I use LC brass. It’s no different than any other brass I’ve picked up at range in terms of neck wall thickness - I checked after that call with Stu.

Maybe there was a 556v223 mil spec thing going on way back when or something.

I still haven’t shot my barrel for accuracy. It might be fine. I just know that their reamer is way different than the one I’ve got, and the reamer they’ve ordered. Way more neck tolerance and way more freebore.

good feedback

Yep.

Absolutely no differences in velocity or accuracy. To be fair though, I didn't mike the neck thickness.

Just to add to this I’m interested to see what the final outcome is. I tried to shoot some Druid Hill Armory ammo (85gr Sierra Game King HP) this past weekend. ES was around 50fps, and SD was 20fps. Speed was 2650 for that ammo. But I couldn’t get it to group, at all. Super bummed as I figured that ammo would have been down in the 1-1.5 moa. If the barrels are bad then, I’d be excited if they replaced them.

This is great news. I have used both federal, aac, and lc in my x-cal barrel. I’ll have to try and measure the neck thickness in some sort of repeatable fashion. I know all of them are thin and the case length shortens when I run the neck mandrel through the first time. I never thought about measuring it.
