I think packgoatguy got his magnesium down to 4.1oz!
(y) Yeah, you could chase weight down further than a 7075 upper, but for me, at 2# 11 oz or so for a fully functional rifle with a 7075 upper, I've gone about as far as I've wanted to go. I'm not sure I want anything lighter than that - at this time anyway - I suppose that could change!

No it would have to be drilled and tapped. If it was chopped for a solo you could probably get it pretty light.
The DS Arms bolt carrier is really nice, I use one in my gasser, but I'm not sure they have enough material in the area that would have to drilled and tapped to be strong enough (or as strong as I'd like, anyway). When I talked with them about that, they didn't think so...but they might be incorrect! It would be really interesting to see how it works for you.

Someone mentioned having the screws go all the way through the bolt, with a recessed hole thereby sitting flush. I wonder if small titanium screws would be an option for going down a size to compromise the bolts strength less?

I’m using it in a gas gun also. Just thought it might be a way for the guys running solos to shed a little weight. Looks like it could be done if set up like a BCA handle except fabricated aluminum handle with 2 smaller Ti screws. How long it would hold up though idk.

I just got my Shaw barrel. Looks very nice. I mocked up a rifle with the parts I had (still waiting on a few things).
Initial thought is that the light weight and trim handguard feel very different than a normal AR. I think I'm going to like it. With a suppressor it balances nice.

One question the NFA hammer pin won't go all the way through the lower on the right side. Am I missing something?

Does the hammer pin go through the lower holes without the hammer? If so, you may just not be aligned correctly. If not, well obviously a lower issue.

Mine should be just a bit over 4 pounds bare. Still waiting on a few peices to come in. After I swap a few things and cut off the back half of the steel bcg I'm hoping to be around 3.5 pounds for the bare rifle. I think I'm going to like this thing! It feels great in to carry around and with a nice (not plastic) trigger it feels like it should be fairly easy to shoot well. I was planning to put a small prism site on but I think it needs a real scope if it's accurate. A bit more to carry but it feels like a good option for a mountain rifle.

Finally got out and shot today. The phantom defense I ordered a while ago with the 69 grain tmks were averaging about 2900 out of the 16 inch Shaw. But…. They were a bugger to extract. Enough so that I don’t see walking around hunting with them, so that was a one time experiment. Probably shoot the rest at the bench.

Also put rounds on paper from my 6x45 barrel at 100 yards. Even with doing load development with varying powder charges I put 13 shots in about 1.5 moa. Now I know it’s a shooter, just need to settle on a load. Working with the 90 grain eld x and 87 v max’s. X-caliber 16”
Seems to cycle better than my Shaw 223 wyld.

Had a couple hours this afternoon to make a few tweaks to my stock design. Rifle now sitting at 54oz, including scope, rings, suppressor, magazine, arca rail, and 12 inch barrel. Haven't shot it yet in this configuration. Maybe Monday if it's not too windy.

Chopped BCA bcg finally. Runs way smoother in the office at least. Pleasant surprise.

Also, 4 ounces was a surprise, I figured 2.5-3. So that’s nice.

How are the 90 ELD-X doing in the 6x45, with respect to ogive length for crimping, powder space in the case, velocity, and accuracy? How does loading them compare to the 87 V-Max?

Seems like it could be a good bullet for the 6x45 (??).
