Truck topper pop-top/canopy camper

This is the scenario that comes up a lot and is needing solved. We had a family commitment until 7pm on Sunday, I got to where I wanted to be around 930pm to hunt blue grouse the next morning.

The new-to-us Silverado is an open bed, but my old Ram has a topper. 6' bed so I had to sleep diagonal, with the dog mostly on me.

It took an extra 30 min to get my bedroll situated, and figure out what all needed to be pulled out of the bed and left outside on the potential rain. I don't think either of us got decent sleep.

Hope you get a pop up camper sorted soon! Mine is a godsend for making opportunities like this happen

A new one is made to order like you would with a new car. Lots of options and fitments so you have to customize it to your needs/liking. It's nearly impossible to be readily available. You'd be buying someone's cancelled order.

Like mentioned above. Too many configurations. Each unit is particular to the brand and bed size. Some companies like SP carry limited inventory for their most popular configurations (Tacomas/Tundras).

Believe the credit incentive has ended. They are running another promotion here in another week or so. Free Therma heater with purchase. That’s a $2,500 value.. SP uses a thicker 4 season fabric unlike GFC.

I had a deposit on a GFC but switched when I heard that haha. Plus they offer 10% off for veterans and first responders.

Switched to the Super Pacific X1.

Seems to be better quality and more thought out design than the GFC.

Unlike the GFC, there is a dedicated pass through area to access the bed. If you’re taller like me (6’5) you can insert these crash pads to extend the overall length of the bed. It doubles as a Molle panel on the other side to store gear.

Truck bed is more accessible from the sides as it doesn’t have the angled tubing like GFC.

Another big reason for me, is they are using a marine grade fabric that’s more water resistant and better suited for 4 season camping. They also offer a thermal tent liner.

Plus, the free $2,500 heater with purchase promo was the cherry on top. Seems to be a slick unit. Other top manufactures like 4 Wheel Campers are starting to incorporate these into their builds. They are propane based, but there is an exterior vent so you don’t get that build up of condensation. I do a lot of late season hunts for big game and upland in MT. There are a bunch of little small details like pass throughs for wiring and so forth. They do weigh more and have a slightly larger footprint than GFC. If I was strictly summer camping, I’d prob stick with the GFC.

You made the right decision. My lackluster experiences with my GFC are what drove my friend to buy the SP.

He's had it for almost four years now. But the products haven't changed much since then.

I like that they have few options, but some things like a maxair fan, or side windows, aren't options on their site. So, I'm curious if he wishes he had things like that or purchased an add on or accessory he doesn't use.

Not sure if he'd do anything differently. He is very purposeful with his purchases. He has gotten a few of their accessories like the molle panels, bags and awning brackets. He did a whole interior storage build as well as built out his own electronics package.

But he's at the point where he wants to try something else, even the truck he's had for ~17 years.
