Been sleeping in the back of my grand cherokee on hunting trips, was just thinking if it would be warmer to be sleeping on the ground?(insulated pad of course which I use in the jeep as well).

There is minimal insulation in the jeep and obviously once it gets cold you are technically surrounded by cold air, it is likely a drier climate inside there though.

What do you guys think?

If you have the room (length and width) to sleep comfortably inside a vehicle and you get some wide refletix and place a double layer of it on the floor you will sleep on …..then your sleeping pad with a r5 or better I would think that the vehicle would be warmer...crack windows for ventilation.

My experience is that it is warmer to sleep inside a vehicle; it also blocks the wind better.

That said, I prefer to sleep outside on the ground in September in the mountains and inside a vehicle in November.

I use my truck and canopy. If we decide to move , load up, chairs, coolers , stove and we are off. No tent to mess with just easier for me. I used to use my full size blazer . It was like climbing in and out of a tent , felt cramped and stuff piled up.

My jeep is kind of cramped but I really don't spend too much time in there, Is a bit of a pain loading and unloading every day.

Beendare I am seeping in the back of a grand cherokee, i think there is some insulation od course some carpet and the folded down seats probably offer quite a bit of insulation which I hadn't really thought of till now.

I have been contemplating getting a camper shell for my Dodge Ram this year and building a small bunk I could put a pad on over the fender well. I’m hoping it makes it a little easier to run up into the mountains on a Friday and grab a couple hours sleep before hunting here around home. Also me and my son are headed up to Idaho to a completey new area this year so I’m thinking it may give us an easier time of moving if we end up in an area with no sign not having to break down as much camp
