Will a cot be colder sleeping?

Staying warm is all about limiting heat transfer.

Solids transfer heat much better than gases...

A pad on the ground has a direct link to the entire Earth to sink your heat away.
A cot puts a layer of air between those two.

I started using a cot a few years ago. As long as there isn't air flow (like sleeping under a tarp in a wind storm) a cot with a pad will always be warmer than the same pad on the ground.

I used a helinox lite cot this year in November (10 deg nights) in a redclif with a stove. As everyone knows, when the fire goes out it’s cold. I also run a crazy creek chair. I unfold the crazy creek and put it on top of my cot. That with a 0 deg bag and I’m as snug as a bug.
