Would love to talk to anyone who drew one of the 10 central coast tule elk tags last year. Or anyone with knowledge about this tule elk hunt. Considering this unit and was hoping for some additional info. Thanks

I see this thread is almost two years old, but curious if any of the posting parties have hunted the Central Coast, San Louis, or Hunter Liggett for tule elk, either hunting or assisting. I am a max point holder. I plan to go self guided. I realize for San Louis I would need to gain landowners permission and for Central I need to pay to hunt on Camp Bob. It looks like the outfitters are charging $6-12k for the central and San Louis hunts. I have a nice Roosevelt & this will probably be my only chance at a Tule.

I drew the central coast tag a coupe of years ago with max points. Had a great hunt but as you said all the land is pretty much private except for Camp Roberts. If the base allows hunters it’s an amazing hunt. Lot of bulls but the communications from the base are slim and last hear hunters didn’t know until the last minute if the base would allow hunters.

I went guided and the trespass fees with the guide are expensive. It’s a once in a lifetime hunt and am glad I had the ability to go guided and get the piece of mind that came with it. Killed a 310” bull on day 1. Saw a lot of bulls but most all were broken up. It’s also an easier to draw hunt because folks don’t want to pay the trespass fees and you could get shut out of the base with little notice if you want to hunt public.

I heard Hunter Liggett was tough hunting last year so I guess it’s just a matter of how long you may want to wait with max points to draw another unit with less tags.

Buzzy, thank you for the prompt reply on your hunt. It sounds like a great experience. I would prefer not to pay for an outfitted hunt, but I do realize it would be a better option, if I am looking to draw in the near future. There is a handful advertising on the internet and I know some do not advertise. Would you be willing to share the name of the outfitter/guide you used?

Never put a write up on Rokslide.

Buzzy, that is a great bull with a lot of character! Hog head, I would be interested in some San Luis info. I have a lead for a guide too, but he has not called me back and I have not tried recently.
