Training for The Uphill Athlete Scott Johnston New Hunting Podcast

Has anyone done the 28 week Backcountry Hunt plan for $80? Would love to hear a review.

They just released it a little over a week ago. I purchased it because I may be interested in incorporating some things down the road, but my main focus is trail running and I already do a lot of endurance/muscular endurance work influenced by uphill athlete and Evoke.

The plan includes a lot of hiking/aerobic work and has a nice progression on weighted packs. It is nothing earth shattering, nor should it be, but it provides good structure to follow. There are also some strength workouts included.

Could most of this be done with a minimal home gym? Treadmill, dumbbells, bench, Kettlebells?

i bought the 28 week plan looks solid. used them 1 on1 last fall and I was the best cardio shape id been in years. I compared this to doing CrossFit 5-6 days a week and was just brunt to ash. lol

the template program is very zone 2 walking volume heavy. The lifting I supplement my own as I'm very experienced there. Maybe it gives a somewhat negative feedback, but my hunts are less than 2 weeks a year. I spend more days on cruises a year than hunts so there is some vanity programming in my plans haha

I need a bunch of zone 2 work to build my aerobic base. Spent hours researching this stuff. I'm looking at 5 to 6 days of varying zone 2 durations and adding 2 full body strength workouts per week. Along with a mild calorie deficit while maintaining my ideal bodyweight protein levels. It's gonna be a grind. Zone 2 work can be seriously slow and tedious but I'm gonna trust the process. I picked up a garmin chest band to track heart rate. I don't trust my Garmin watch to accurately track it.

I did a 12 week coached program with the same Evoke coach last fall. (John Frieh of Evoke)

I looked at the example week for the 28 week course. Many of the workouts seems to be identical.

I would recommend the 28 week course. I am going to buy it and start it. I'll let you know more after I try it for a while...

Considering what we spend on hunting and fitness, $80 seems almost free... even if we only get a few ideas, it seems like money well spent.
