1. Tikka T3X Super Varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor
2. Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223
3. Savage 93R17 , 17 HMR
How much time do you have behind a super varmint? I am interested in getting one, I like heavier barrels. But I am not finding very many reviews online. How does yours shoot, and how long does it take to get the barrel too warm to shoot?

1. TacOps X-ray 51 (.308) with TacOps titanium suppressor
2. Mausingfield which has multiple barrels and different configurations, from PRS to hunting
3. KAC SR-15 Mod1

Ben, I have right at 800 rounds through my SV. I got it primarily as a range rifle, shooting out to 500 yards and have been out to 1K yards. The gun is VERY accurate, particularly considering I’m shooting factory ammo only. When I don’t get in its way, it can put multiple hits in 3 and 4” gongs at 500 yards. I baby my barrels and don’t allow them to get over pleasantly warm before I pull the guns off line for cooling. I also shoot slowly. So, I’m really not the best person to ask about barrel shooting limits when it comes to temperature.
As far as being a hunting rifle, I’ve not weighed mine, but the gun only is listed at 9 lbs. All up, I’d expect between 10.5 to 11.5 lbs. , maybe a shade more. If I was going to be doing any hunting that required extensive trekking, I would probably look for something lighter. Then again, I’m 77 and not in the same shape I was in my 30’s. Or 40’s. Or 50’s ! For blind/ stand hunting in which less walking is required, I think the SV would be terrific.
In summary, I love mine. Typical Tikka smooth action and accuracy. Can highly recommend.

TIKKA 3x .223 chopped to 17”, STOCKY’S VG
TIKKA 7mm/08 in RT EMBER stock
TIKKA .308 RT barreled action chopped to 17.5” and moved to TIKKA CTR stock.

I have moved these barreled actions around after being chopped…(7mm/08 is 20”).
I have paired actions and stocks by recoil/weight….223 in my lightest (Stocky’s Carbon), 7mm/08 in the RT ember and the RT .308 barreled action in the CTR stock.
These moves now are being evaluated by range time…I’m a little concerned about how the different barrel contours will act in the different stocks.
May need to float them all?

Thank you for the reply. How do you like the stock? I think my thought process is to go ahead and pick one up, and then slide it into a chassis or stock if I feel like it's necessary. I don't mind hauling around a rifle that's 10.5 or so lbs. For me the added accuracy is worth a little more weight.. I will never understand guys wanting 7prc or 300prc in like a 6 lb rifle.

I wouldn’t qualify as a connoisseur of fine rifle stocks, mind, but IMHO the OEM Roughtech stock certainly seems to be substantial enough. To each his own, but I certainly didn’t spend $1500 or so just to dump the stock. Apparently, a lot of folks do that with Tikka rifles, however. LOL, I think back to the M-16 I shot so many years ago and the SV feels like a MUCH more substantial firearm!

That makes sense to me. Probably the course to take it shoot it and see how I like it. This would be a substantial step up for me. My only long gun right now is a Howa 1500 hogue stock. I have been considering the new seekins, but the barrel profile has been giving me a lot of pause.

An even larger portion modify the factory stocks - for very little money.

If we're talking hunting rifles:
1) Winchester Model 70 EWSS .270 Win. That's my go-to for everything where legal, and my wife bought it for me before moving to Alaska.
2) H&R Handi-Rifle .243. My first deer rifle after meeting my dad's accuracy standards with my BB Gun (the face of a quart sized coffee can at ~25 yards 1000 times over the summer with 10 misses allowed. I wore myself out pumping that Daisy, and he drank a lot of coffee). Technically, I only have the barrel after a cleaning crew mistook the frame for trash, but I bought another frame for it.
3) Savage 93 or 97 .22LR. The first rifle I bought with my own money at 10 years old. It's got somewhere between 25k and 40k and isn't as accurate as it once was but it stays around.

All Rifles:
1) Anschutz 2013 .22LR: I bought it with money I saved up from cutting grass over the summer with a little help from a savings account my grandmother established when I was born. It's still the most money I've spent on a single firearm, but it got me into a pretty good college. I haven't shot it since college, but smallbore prone is something I'll be able to do until I die.
2) AR-15 Service Rifle: I started shooting service rifle after college to scratch the competitive itch. It's about to be on its third barrel. I don't see myself stopping this sport until I can't shoot Offhand anymore.
3) The Winchester .270 mentioned above.
