I see the Tikka T3x factory take off stocks posted for roughly $50 in the classifieds all the time. Why would someone buy one? (They come with one...) are yall doing modifications that occasionally don't go well and you need a round 2, 3 or 4?

I have a factory take off stock laying around. Just wondering if I am missing out on a fun and unnecessary DIY project?

I just bought one off ebay. $52 shipped

Carved on one a while back and it didnt go the way I wanted so tossed it. This one will get ground out to lemme use them fancy aics mags.

Carve the forends out for arca plates... stash your wood so it doesn't get banged up hunting. Just have an extra. Alot of them are generated by guys wanting the barreled action to put in a chassis. For instance, this is a ruger g2 at heart20250130_151819.jpg

I've bought them to cut down as well I'm also trying to scheme up a way to attach an ar buffer tube to one and make my own adjustable stock just to see if I can do it

If you’re gonna change out the stock anyway, you can buy the laminate, walnut or compact versions and get more in return sometimes. Especially if you buy the closeouts from EO. Just an example, the standard blued 7mag is $649 and the Hunter is $749. As said, the standard black synthetic sells for about $50 and some people even give them away. You can get $250+ for the walnut on the Hunter. So the Hunter model is a better buy in that sense.

I’ve gotten overly ambitious with the dremel, drill etc on a few and wanted now ones that weren’t butchered.

I’d like to find a good way to attach a buffer myself.

I cut them down for my kids. Have a 11.5, 12.5 and normal LOP.
That's what I'm looking to do for my grandson, have 2 stocks on the way. How do you go about cutting them down? What are you using for a recoil pad?

Any pics of the inside of the stock after cutting them down?

Thanks

Just google Tikka stock problems. Seems to be the #1 complaint. Bad fit, inferior material and bad recoil pad. A lot of aftermarket options.

I have no issues with mine. I pillar bed, dremel out the barrel channel. Install a victor cheek riser and never had a problem. Some folks just look for reason to spend money so they can say look what I have. I on the other hand look for my equipment to perform and if it does with the standard equipment, im good.

Did it with my CTR and with my recently cut down T3.

Imho they fit fine, the material is as good or better than those in its price point / weight, the recoil pad is perfectly fine. Maybe on high recoiling guns a better one may be preferred but the stock one is functional.

With a vertical grip they feel good and are functional, anyone that claims they aren’t is exaggerating or not grounded in reality. Yes after market stocks can offer incremental improvement for more money.
