Tikka Barrel Removal and Install Tool Swap Thread

We used two rows and 2 wraps of drywall tape on Saturday and it still went all the way thru. No marks tho.

I used real estate mailers (giant post card) last time.

Tried blue painters tape the first time. That was dumb.

On my attempt the adhesive acted as a lube and smeared, and the engraving got torn up while the barrel spun.

I've had blue tape work just fine twice on the flats with the external action wrench but I've been using paper for that the last 3 go arounds.

I meant to buy this before the last barrel my buddy and I removed but I forgot so we had to use a pipe wrench again instead . I think it should work on viper vice but double check the dims

That doesn't looked tapered in the photo though does it to you? If it is great.

SAC also has tikka bushings, two pieces though so not sur if that is good or bad for use in a viper (or similar) vice. https://shortactioncustoms.com/product/barrel-vise-bushings/

Iirc I didn't order right away bc I was going to message the seller to confirm it matched the taper but I never got around to it. I agree it's not clear from the pictures. I thought the sac bushings were a different diameter than the viper but not 100% sure.

Not sure the sac diameter but I can measure if you want. I have the bravo vice

Take off question again… I got a some 175 ELD-X’s in and I have to push hard the first bullet chambered to get the bolt to close. land marks on one side of the bullet consistently so I’m assuming I’m jaming. This is a factory unfired 7 PRC barrel from JA Outdoots put on to an unfired factory 300 WM action. I torqued the barrel to 80 LBS from the guide and applied the correct anti-seize. Not really sure what to do here…

I decided cut my viper into 2 sections and live with it.
I think that it would work well if you split the top and then used some angle iron with holes that matched each half as a brace to keep each half from bending too much. I think you should get better clamping force from 2 narrow clamps than 1 big one just due to the way clamping forces act.

I just ordered the SAC Tikka bushing set for my Bravo since all the other bushings in the kit suck for holding Tikka tapers.

Factory ammo or handloads? What's the runout on the ammo? Do you have access to a bore scope to check the chamber and throat?

Factory ammo, not sure, and no sir
Did you use a go gauge/no go gauge afterwards? I've experienced rifles which had a minimum chamber and then ammo that was on the maximum range which caused some brands or variations of ammunition to stick in the lands and pull the bullets. I would try another factory load or have an actual gunsmith take a look at it.
