Finally broke a part on a Tikka. This M595 was first a 22-250 with 2k’ish rounds on it, then a 243 with no less than 1,500, then a 308 with more than 16,000 documented rounds, now a 6XC with around 500 on it. That is not counting literally hundreds of thousands of dry fires. It’s been totally abused, beat on, thrown off of buildings and thrown across ranges; been shot heavily from -20° to over 140°, had killed a couple hundred animals and won matches. In the entire time I have used it, it has never lost zero, malfunctioned, or in any way failed to work correctly. All parts have been factory for the entire time except the magazines are AICS, and the barrels.

I noticed recently that in dry firing the bolt shroud moved more than it normally does. Took it apart today and sure enough a piece had broke off and at some point lost the spring. Gun still worked fine though.

Left shroud is original, right is factory new Tikka. You can see the left corner of the lip inside had broken or worn off.

Switched it out with a factory new metal shroud and all is well. The stock is looking a bit washed out, and needs to be waxed- sitting by the fire now to warm up to do so.

Sweet baby Geezus. I just yelled at a friend who dropped off his rifle because it was so dirty, used and abused. But this takes the cake. That's next level.

Just curious Form, how often do you do a deep cleaning?

The reason I don’t suggest people to replace shrouds, recoil lugs, trigger springs, etc. is because I see a lot (A LOT) of rounds fired from Tikka’s- mostly T3’s and T3x’s, and they just work. In way more than 100,000 rounds from Tikkas I have not seen a broken shroud (before now), have only seen a couple of dented recoil lugs in heavy calibers before the T3x, and only one person shooting stupid hot loads in a 308 and running the bolt very heavy has ever broken a bolt stop.

Stuff gets used with my group- really used.

Never. If they get lots of dirt, sand or debris in the action, I’ll wipe it off or if really bad spray out with brake cleaner. Otherwise just put a bit of lube on the bolt and bolt lugs every couple of thousand rounds.

Any thoughts or tips on blued barrel vs stainless as far as maintenance?

In the same spirit, this is a T3 in 223 that is all factory. I did switch a T3x stock in it for the vertical grip. For a while it was in a KRG Bravo chassis as well. It also has close to, or just over 20,000 documented rounds on it, with between 5,000-10,000 random rounds.

It was just sprayed out about two months ago because of shooting it for a week in a very windy sandy area.

This rifle is the single most shot bolt action I currently have. It has been used to take well over a hundred game animals all the way to multiple Elk, has been shot and beat on from -20° to over 130°, has been shot in matches, and totally trashed since it was new. Those rounds came from October 2014 I believe until now, with most in the first few years.

The scope has over 40,000 rounds on it, with the last 20’ish K on this rifle-

Which rings and size are those? I like how low you got the scope.

Form you guys running a lot of the same suppressors like that or do you end up testing a lot of those as well? Looks like same one/model on a couple different rifles there.

Pretty bad ass. Was looking at the photos trying to decide what my reaction would be to seeing one of those on the used rack at the gun store. Probably think to myself that the previous owner was clueless! Haha!

We shoot lots of different ones. However, I would prefer just to use CGS cans for most everything.
