Finally broke a part on a Tikka. This M595 was first a 22-250 with 2k’ish rounds on it, then a 243 with no less than 1,500, then a 308 with more than 16,000 documented rounds, now a 6XC with around 500 on it. That is not counting literally hundreds of thousands of dry fires. It’s been totally abused, beat on, thrown off of buildings and thrown across ranges; been shot heavily from -20° to over 140°, had killed a couple hundred animals and won matches. In the entire time I have used it, it has never lost zero, malfunctioned, or in any way failed to work correctly. All parts have been factory for the entire time except the magazines are AICS, and the barrels.
I noticed recently that in dry firing the bolt shroud moved more than it normally does. Took it apart today and sure enough a piece had broke off and at some point lost the spring. Gun still worked fine though.
Left shroud is original, right is factory new Tikka. You can see the left corner of the lip inside had broken or worn off.
Switched it out with a factory new metal shroud and all is well. The stock is looking a bit washed out, and needs to be waxed- sitting by the fire now to warm up to do so.
