The Shoot2hunt Podcast

Question for next time you have a barrel manufacturer on as a guest.

Is there anything that can be done, whether that be some sort of coating, or different way of treating the metal to create a throat that lasts longer and could hold up better to the overbore cartridges? Specifically thinking of 22 CM or 6 UM. Barrel life is one of the only negatives I can think with either.

This may be linking two unrelated items, but could they do what federal did with the 7 BC, and come up with some alloy technology that holds up better to higher pressure and doesn’t erode as quickly?

Bartlein mod400?

Nitride, harder metal like bartlein mod400, or harder cold hammer forged barrels is the only options i've heard of.

What does the 7BC have to do with increasing barrel life? The case holds up to the pressure but I'd think the barrel gets hammered on still. Did I miss something?

I think it was a reference to the concept of coming up with an alloy to overcome a limitation, in that example they developed a case, but questioning how to do it for a barrel.
