The Shoot2hunt Podcast

So who is this Foster Huntington fellow? They didn't really introduce him , at least I didn't hear an introduction. He sounded quite knowledgeable... I'd like to hear more about making smaller cases perform like bigger ones with heavier bullets and different twist rate etc.

I about pulled my hair out in the first 5 minutes, listening to Jake make a parallel between some dumbass space movie with a fake rocket ship being propelled by a fire extinguisher and what causes chamber pressure and recoil. Jesus Christ lol. Someone take that guys TV away lol
I liked the episode but agree that section was rough. I also don't understand the argument that a 6 UM somehow magically recoils less other than confirmation bias. Bore diameter does not have an effect on recoil. The only explanation I can think of in their conversation is that the rifles being shot side-by-side are not an apples to apples comparison. I can believe the felt recoil being better if one rifle has a better stock design, different muzzle device, or a higher rifle weight.

At the end of the day, it's the mass and acceleration of powder gasses/particles out of the muzzle and the mass and acceleration of the projectile out of the muzzle divided by the mass of the rifle to get the recoil acceleration. It's some super complex formula. My shoulder can definitely tell when I add 20 grains (creedmoor vs. UM increase) of Blackhorn 209 to my muzzleloader behind the same projectile in the same rifle.

I don't know how I can be any clearer; they are carbon copies of each other. I can spot hit with one but not the other. I'm not saying it's magic, but there's a difference, and I don't understand why.

Thanks for the response and added context. Re-reading my post, it came off more accusatory than questioning which was originally how I intended it, so my apologies. If the rifle weights are the exact same, the projectile mass and acceleration is easily defined and measured, it only leaves the powder and muzzle device as potential influences.

The one idea that comes to my mind is that you are shooting suppressed and the much higher gas speed/acceleration and larger gas volume on the 6 UM versus a 6.5 creed is having a larger recoil reduction when striking the blast baffle in the suppressor. I could see this being even more likely on a reflex suppressor that I assume you're shooting where some of the gas is direct 180 degrees rearward. This would be an easy variable to test by measuring reticle shift after recoil on each rifle with a suppressor installed versus bare muzzle.

Don’t burst my bubble. Finally going to shoot that thing this weekend at Ha Ha. Tikka 6UM, Rokstok, SWFA 3x9 sitting in Nightforce rings, with some kind of suppressor with a Recoil X.

If it was just the guest that would make sense to me im used to that but its ryan and jake that sound electronic.
You're hearing DSP artifacts from the phased array.

If you want top quality sound without a boom operator, you get close to a nice mic with a good windscreen or you wear something like this.

I was wondering the same.. great info just curious on who he is /does to get all the statistics..

If you're going to HAHA would you be willing get some footage of shooting the 6UM30 compared to a 6.5 PRC (assuming they have one there)?

I had planned to go but coming from the Southeast I could just buy another rifle setup for the cost of the trip.

Seems like more often than not there's a major problem with the podcast that necessitates pulling it and re-uploading.

I obviously don't know how their workflow is, but I have a checklist I run through before I hit upload or send on any deliverables to avoid simple mistakes like uploading the wrong file or uploading in mono, etc.
Same, I'm an audio eng both music and podcast, was full-time and now just do it on the side and its been agonizing as of late listening to their podcasts, the episode posting flow across multiple platforms, audio quality, etc. I occasionally message Jake about it. Would love to help but not in the area.
