Traditionally until now I've only invested in my and my wife's retirement funds. Which means I don't have to worry about taxes until retirement. To the guys who are trading short term, how do you manage the tax burden of all these trades? Id image the tax due on these sales add up quickly. Do you hold a separate fund for paying your gains tax at the end of the year?

Im at 22 per cent rate for my bracket for short term trades. Personal trading account. I factor that in. I have my 5 k losses already to write off. Long term is at 15 per cent I believe. I throw some gains in my fidelity personal account every week to cover taxes.

Most of my assets are in a 401 k account which is taxed differently.( I have much more conservative investments in this account) I have a friend with a CPA whom Im working with. Some guys on here know more than me.

I opened a brokerage via my 401k so I don't pay taxes on those.

Looks like profit takers stepping in so I sold most on limit orders set up in morning. Approaching end of trading week.

Holding on to REI, CHAP another few minutes or an hour and squeeze a few hundred more dollars out of them. I could be wrong of course. 5 k gains for today so cant complain on down market day. This might be it for the runs.Feel like pushing luck

Holding cdev, FET, GUSH for now. Did pick up some gold (sgdj) on low. today for the hell of it.

Yep. I did the same...sold most of CHAP and CPE, had about 2K in profits and didn't want those to evaporate. I suspect Friday will be worse for profit taking.
CDEV will remain a hold obviously.
BA is a bit weird this week--tons of bad news though, was hoping for a $151-155 pop for a sell.

Started nibbling away today at repurchases of GPMT EPR and others, prices are still high, but I'll work them as they come down. Those stocks are the core of my sheet. Until they stabilize for long holds they will be shorts, I made good money on them this week.

How do you guys find some of these tickers? I’ve never heard of most of them but I also mainly pay attention to big cap.

Keerist. I almost sold half of the ( 62 K) FET shares Ive been accumulation because I saw it dropping for a small $1000 profit on a limit order. (3 hours of sleep last night not thinking well) . A few sold before I cancelled limit order. thank God. Now up over 8 k one hour after I cancelled the trade. Crazy market!! Close call and another lesson not to let emotions affect trades.

Probably stupid but bought another 1000 shares of CDEV at low today.

Who knows maybe oil stays strong through tomorrow. Cant figure this out.

FET running like a scalded dog...wonder why? I held this one and it's getting fat.

I was going to take average profit returns on FET because its been pretty steady up and downs ( unlike the other oil stocks) and buying on lows with minor swings the past week. Some little voice in my head said don't sell even a portion of shares.

Im trying to figure it out.

Yeah, it's important to remember we're dealing with literally penny stocks right now. Will these companies survive? Honestly that's the big question, if so they will be back and any purchase below a buck should yield really fine returns. In a few years serious money.
It's tough to see red on the sheet, but that's part of the game especially in covid times.
I think Trump cringes to see any viable company fail, he's a true business man and will do everything he can to see that some of these small shale concerns survive.

And Texas , is a potential swing state in an election year, ( this is one of they reasons I keep trading) so Trump I think will try and take care of the people in gas and oil as he should.

I’m glad I don’t have any CHK. I couldn’t believe the steep gains in that lately with their debt load. That thing has been a slow loser for years. I made a few bucks on it on swings but man that was a stock rental not a purchase ha!
