Any certain tricks or tips to removing the stock from a gen 2?

Bought a 308 a few months ago and was going to pop an Mcarbo spring in it, but for the life of me I can’t get the action rear screw out. I realize it’s behind the magazine release, but it seems to be at a weird angle and I can’t get a bit or ball head allen wrench in there enough to get the screw out.

You need to remove the mag latch and spring to get to the rear action screw. If the rifle was bought new, there will be a black plastic jig in the box that is handy to get the mag latch and mag spring back in. It’s easier than trying to hold the assembly together but doable without.

Use an actual "pin" punch to drift the pin out on the AICS mag release. This will give you full access to the screw. Watch out for the spring that holds pressure on the lever. It will leave the chat if you allow it to.

What are the thoughts on putting money into these versus letting them be?

I have 3 Gen1 that all have the potential to shoot lights out. A 223 Predator, 6.5CM Pred and a .308 base.

I’ve been looking at the Magpul Hunter Lite stocks but am also a little worried about messing with something that is already working. I would like to move to AICS and away from the Ruger mags.

I’ve had multiple barreled actions in a few different stocks.
Bravo, Magpul, Fieldstock and modified factory.

IME the shot at least as good or better.
Usually better from being more comfortable whims the rifle.

I like mine so far. I do wonder if anyone has been able to break one (other than mags)? I bounce back and forth between a M77II and the Ruger American. Usually pick the M77II for special hunts cause I figure it will be harder to break it or jam it. But I could be wrong.

Dont know then. Both mine and a buddy’s included them so I can’t say.

Like Sixpack all of mine, or at least the ones that came from the factory with AICS magazines don't think the AR mag ones did, have came with them in the box, but if they didn't and you want them I would recommend reaching out to Ruger Customer Service and they will likely just send you one at no cost (or at least they did for me when I lost the ones I had).

Haha I just did that with my old Gen 1.5 grendel (when they added fore end stiffening bracing in barrel channel) although mine in a mdt chassis. Will get to zero day after ice fishing season here. Definitely an off kilter scope to rifle cost ratio.

And yeah a kids buddy got a new g2 in creed and went to adjust trigger down for him while mounting his scope but only went to 4.25 lbs...my older g1.5 Grendels get down to ~3 lbs. I’d be swapping out those new triggers but happy enough with the ones I got originally.

Other little tips like polishing bolt underside and clipping some coil off AR steel 10 round mags to improve feeding ease and store the mags full and maybe only hunt with 7-8 in makes em pretty sweet, really like mine, has been a killer out there.

Just punched out the mag trip lever roll pin to remove the lever on kids buddies new g2 creed, wasn’t too bad to get back in after.

I have a hard time not throwing money at things that work just fine.

I just pulled the barrel off a 308 RAP and sent the action to Mos-Teck to have a shouldered 375 Raptor barrel made for it (25-30 month wait). My XRS chassis just showed up today and I also have a Timney waiting to go back in once it arrives. Most ridiculous of all; I just ordered a NX6 2-12 from Nightforce (via Mil program) to go on top of the rifle once complete (along with Area 419 base and MDT rings).

I traded a junk gun for the RAP and sold all the OEM parts, so basically have $0 in the action.

My goal is to make the most expensive cheap-gun I can...

Thanks for posting. Had a piece of plastic on my work bench for the past few months and couldn’t figure out what it was for, but sure enough its the same piece in your pic.

Where was it located in the box? I didn't see one in either of my 22CM rifles but I didn't open the lock bag.

I haven’t bought a Gen2 with AICS.
All my Gen 2’s have been AR15 mags.

I will say, it shouldn’t be a Gen 1 thing.
It makes putting the pin in release lever easy.
Should be standard equipment for an AICS magwell equipped rifle.

All my AICS rifles came with one. I’d contact Ruger.

This may explain why. The rifles I bought are both chambered in 6mm ARC and come with AR style magazines.

Got a free Gen 2 .243 from work this winter, and finally got around to stripping it and torquing and painting it while mounting a SHV.

90gr eld-x looks promising! Had loads should be better. Oh also changed the trigger and it changed the feel of the gun!

Should be a perfect truck/boat/four wheeler gun and deer rifle for the wife.
