So, you think most of these folks are running a strategy to accumulate points by applying for the impossible (or just buying the point), and then hunting OTC?
That’s exactly what I’ve done for over 30 + years in Colorado.

Collect PPs and use them when I have enough to draw a good tag.

Hunt otc the off years.

I’ve drawn some dandy LE units over the years too

Something Oregon is doing that I think a lot of states would benefit from is they are offering Preference Points for turning in a poacher. That unit takes 20 points and you only have 5? Turn in some poachers and get more points
WA does the same. You can get up to 10 bonus points.

Of course, in WA the draws are basically a lottery, you simply get more tickets in the draw with more points. An extra 10 doesn't mean much. But the number of tags available has been declining steadily and drawing anything seems near impossible. I've got 20+ points for branch antlered bull in Eastern WA, quality elk and quality deer and have yet to draw any of them. But we can still hunt the general season for the "sasquatch on the unicorn" spike bull and 3-point or better mule deer.
