Hey Aron, would it be possible to get a two way center zip, (through special order) on a Tahr or either of the other two in this new family? Say from near the bottom up to where the first web loop is for attaching the "over the top" compression strap? Thanks

I'm going to say no at this point, but I can't give you a real answer till I'm back at shop.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I've been on a mule deer hunt and not able to talk with any of the sewers.

That's the Kifaru Tahr, Guide Lid, spotting scope pocket and medium belt pouches.

Inside the bag I had a full boned out mule deer and all of my day hunting gear (spotting scope, camera gear, clothing, food and Woobie).

Congrats! Nice work! Great looking muley. Just got back from Wyoming myself. I ordered and EMR II, but I don't think I can pass up a Tahr as well. But I'd really love to have a zipper, just for the easy access. Thx Aron

Congrats Aron, was your color combo your preference or did it just work out that way based on what was handy and in stock?

I really like the black and brown color combo. The Markhor I have is black with coyote brown pockets and the Tahr is what you see in the photo. I have to Argali's and one is wolf grey the other is coyote brown and black.

For what its worth, I'd be interested in the center zip option as well. Quick/easy access to gear on the inside is nice when I use my pack while in the treestand. Having to come in from the top with all the snow collar material is a pain and a center zip makes it easier. It's also a nice feature to have when on stand and its raining as you can keep everything closed up and zip down to get something quick and then close it back up. On top of those two things, the amount of movement needed to access gear with a center zip is considerably lower than what is needed to go in from the top.

Just a thought. If it's not an option, I'll likely explore having a local sew shop add it anyway, so no big loss either way.

I'll know soon, but if we can't do it, MAKE SURE A #10 zipper is used or it will blow apart.

Not to derail the thread but since somebody mentioned treestand hunting....the 22Mag makes a perfect treestand pack. The panel load can be situated to zip down either side or from the top for access to anything and everything in the bag. The long side pockets work great for a long or multi-sectioned bow hanger and/or hooey man saw and can be used for a quick dump spot. The panel can accept any combo of pockets or pouches for customizable storage. Sorry, just food for thought from a Midwestern whitetail guy

Does the tahr's circumference get bigger as it gets closer to the top opening?

Regarding the center zip, I will say I was surprised that the markhor and argali's didn't have any bottom access. There's nothing really like the tahr in Kifaru's line up so that's an easy pick. But for a larger bag it really comes down to weight vs. bottom access when comparing the AMR to the argali.

I agree it would be a great pack for how I whitetail hunt, but, a tarh with spotting scope pockets on each side and a center zip would be a great whitetail pack as well, and then you could turn around and use it for a western hunt as well. I'm a minimalist, and if I can find one pack that will do it all for me, that's what I would prefer to go with. Save money and space in the end.

Thanks for posting this. This is exactly the bag I'm looking for. My Exo 3500 is loud and a pain when trying to open the snow cap. I'll use it for camping, but it's between the 22, or this bag for Whitetail hunting/tree stand. The Tahr price point and possible ways to use this pack are things to think about. I saw the 22mag on a 26" frame is it was a nice set-up.

Yep.....

We already offer bottom zippers on multiple packs and a ton of people asked for packs with no bottom zipper (lighter and cheaper as well)

The Tahr looks like a great pack for those not needing huge ci's. Very versatile in terms of going small or loading it up. The only issue for me is not quite as affordable as I personally would like when adding a lid and a couple of pouch's. Not saying it is not worth it. Quality for sure. I need to do a better job of ratholing funds!
