We've always done the gutless method on elk and mostly on deer unless our truck is nearby. Then we'll gut it and drag it out. No need to ever gut an elk unless you wanna keep the liver or something.A couple of comments in another thread had me curious. When I moved to Montana a few years ago I learned about the gutless method and have done it ever since. It's clean, fast, and easy. I only cut what I am taking out of the woods.
But it seems some guys call it a fad and have moved away from it. I'd like to know why and why they are doing instead.
Why get into the guts when you don't have to?
