So I'm a little bored, and started reading through the B+C records. Low and behold, who knew! The world's largest *entered into the B+C* Brown Bear was taken with the ole 30-06! That makes it officially the best round for the species right? Haha

Anyone want to volunteers to shoot a world record Brown with a 30-06! Lol

I'm curious what the record Polar bear was shot with. Anyone know? More than anything it's just a fun fact, and yes, the title is supposed to be click bait.

That was child's play, how about taking one with a single shot 22lr! Holy crap, this is a facinating story. I'd love to have met that lady!

*edit* this is even better, I missed it. Not a 22lr, a freaking 22long! Holy crap!

In Pinnell and Talifsons book, “Last of the great brown bear men” he takes a true squared 11’ kodiak brown bear with a 30-30 if I remember correctly on the details, it’s been a few years since I’ve read that one. I think it took a couple rounds.

Im having a ball going down this rabbit hole. Quite a few articles on bears killed with a 22.

I cant find any more info on Shelby Longoria's rifle that he used on his record Polar bear. The pictures of him standing over it dont make it look like it was anything super big.

I should have titled this, "worst caliper for brown bears." The amount of 22lr and 9mm kills is actually pretty impressive. Never anything id volunteer to attempt, but shot placement truly is everything. Definitely a fun little sidetrack to read through some of these stories.

And can we talk about Fred Bear for a minute. He goes on 2 hunts, arrows a bear both times, gets charged both time and the guide has to kill the polar bear for him BOTH TIME. Yet he goes out on a third trip to finally bag his archery Polar Bear. That dude....

I heard 9mm with a good hard lead bullet was pretty good for bear. What do you think? :)
There was one killed on the Russian river by 9mm in the early 2000's full charge.

Well sheet, you got me to fall for it.
I've never tried to beat a bear to death with a caliper, but if I'm ever in that situation I'd probably say a set of F550 chineseium front calipers would be my go to, they seem to grenade on the slightest impact. And if we're talking about shop calipers, well then its going to be a pair of Starrett.......

I remember that one...FMJ to boot. Phil Shoemaker tipped one over with a 9mm a couple years ago as well. Still not going to try it.

In the ye olde days people tipped bears over with all kinds of stuff. Read "Last Voyage of the Karluk". Those guys dropped a number of bears with a 6.5 Mannlicher and a Winchester 94. Good stuff.

Music plays in the background *cause all I do is win win win, no matter what*
