The 6UM

10 shot group with a few of my fire forming loads. Not bad!!!! 99 pieces fire formed today! Man that rifle is sweet!!! Recoil is so much less than my old 6.5 PRC!

Looking good already. What did you use for your fire forming load? Powder charge and bullet?

The one in the first page or two of the UM reloading thread. 55 grains of 7828 and 105 Hornady areomatch bullets.
I ran out of that then used 58 grains of h1000 for the last 10 or 15.

I felt bad for that poor barrel. It was 90 out and I wasn't worrying about letting it cool down at all. A wise man told me that barrel temp doesn't really matter. From what I saw I can confirm this. I actually did a lot of work on running the bolt and fast follow up shots.

For those that were/are wanting to run the UM DBM and magazine, I think I have a fix-ish for it to work. I don’t think there is enough tension on the follower with the factory spring to work with the 6UM. With my particular gun the tip of the bullet is getting pushed down into the magazine, or between the magazine and feed ramp creating a failure to feed. A stiffer spring would be the fix, but I found this morning that putting another magnum cartridge, I’ve tried 7RM and 300wsm, under the spring seems to feed 100% now. Stretching the spring alone didn’t seem to make a difference.

@Unknown Munitions what are the chances of getting a stiffer magazine spring?

Honest question- why are you trying to use that magazine system?

At this point it’s simply because of the cost I have into it. Hindsight I should have just bought a prc magazine and been done with it.

It’s not a good fit and will always be finicky. Selling it and going back to the factory mags is a far better way.
