Suppressor purchase from Silencer Central

ordered my first suppressor from Silencer Central in November and was approved after 32 days by the ATF but I had it ordered to my door because I did not know any better at the time. They sent the LEO notice 10 days ago but he didn’t pick it up or acknowledge it. I called silencer central and the gal said well we will have to re send the letter once it gets returned to us. This will obviously tack on unnecessary weeks on the wait time but I’m confused how this process works because I’ve been hearing different stories. Some folks say the LEO does not need to respond or accept it and silencer central can ship it after the 7 day wait. Other folks are saying he has to at least “acknowledge” the letter which would tell me he does have to pick it up from the post office. Can anyone tell me exactly how this process works because I don’t know what to believe at the moment. Open for discussion. Thanks.

Call them up and raise hell. Have them pay to transfer the can to another FFL in your locality where you can just pick it up.

That's lame. The only service like that I've used is Capital Armory and didn't realize the wait until approval to send LEO notice. They give it 7 days and automatically ship. I've never heard of a LEO acknowledging a letter so id press that issue. I think 7 days is the legal wait time.

Yeah I wish I would’ve known better before I went through with them. I’ll give them another call on Monday and see what they have to say this time around.

I would just keep complaining to SC and reminding them that instruction 3 on the form directs them to transfer it immediately. Probably won't help but it might.

I’ve bought 4 from silencer central. The last (a BOGO with the free 22K) had an issue because the local LEO delivery was over the holidays and must have gotten lost in the mail not once but twice. Really aggravating and had to call SC multiple times to get them to take action. Ultimately delivered to my door but took a few weeks longer than it should have. Wasn’t a huge deal to me as I’ve got other suppressors and wasnt planning to use this one until now anyway

BTW - the reviews for the free 22K can were pretty bad. My experience has been that can is far better on a rifle than a pistol. It will be a permanent thing on my 10/22 where it works as you’d expect while the Banish 22 will live on my 22 pistol

It is notification that a "non-over-the-counter sale" that happens once you fill out and digitally sign your 4473. Since it is being sent directly to your door, rather than being picked up at a Class 3 dealer (where you would normally fill out the 4473), this is an "extra" step that is required. Also, unlike the Form 4 CLEO notification, there is a 7 day wait required once the CLEO "receives the notice". In the case of the OP, since the letter was sent back, there is no proof of notification, so they have to do it again.

This is where Silencer Central and Capitol Armory are different. Capitol Armory sends this notification via Certified/Registered Mail, so that their is no question that it is delivered and they start the 7 day wait as soon as they get back notice that it was delivered. As far as I can tell, SC, in their bid to save a couple of bucks, just sends it regular mail and makes you wait a few more days just to make sure it doesn't get returned.

For that reason, along with the high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy their shitty suppressors, selling folks on the "user serviceable" aspect when it is not even necessary and as anyone who has used one of their overpriced pieces of junk can tell you they become very non-user serviceable pretty damn quick, is why I will never buy a thing from SC.

so if my Leo doesn’t acknowledge this what happens after that because I called and emailed with no response and according to silencer central they have as well.

Great explanation. Thank you. Point of clarification, I think Capitol goes off of the date of delivery and not when they get the notification returned through them. It was 7 or 8 days after the emailed saying the sent the letter when I got an email with tracking. Maybe they overnight it? Either way, Capitol > SC.

Plus the dude i spoke with at Capitol was super cool and knew a ton about the cans I wanted. He directed me to one of his YouTube videos comparing the two which was ridiculously funny.

The letter just has to be sent. When I buy a can and get the submission email from eforms I literally forward it to my county sheriff’s work email.

“Good afternoon sheriff. As you know (you and I have done this before) I am required by law to send this to you notifying you of my recent purchase. Yay me, I am buying another suppressor.

Attached is my submission letter to the ATF. This requires no action on your part, no signature required, etc. I am simply required to notify.

Thank you”

And he replies usually the same day “thank you sir, have fun!” Or something along those lines.

Silencer central sends it out first class certified mail as well but for whatever reason it was not delivered to the Leo at the police station. I have the tracking number and it says it’s been sitting at the post office and will be returned to sender soon if a redelivery is not set up.

I haven't had any issues with Silencer Central, but maybe my customer service standards, and expectations are low. I expect to buy my next one from them, but I'm hopeful, there won't be the tax stamp for very much longer.
