Suppressor Help for recoil and sound reduction on a lightweight hunting rifle, but shooting a heavy magnum 300 PRC.

CGS Hyperion. It is long, not too heavy and is quiet. Tests on Pew Science confirm it too. When I am standing hunting, it is my go-to suppressor. No need for a brake at the end of any suppressor IMO they just do not reduce recoil.

My experience with different end caps on the Scythe Ti suggests otherwise. With the braked end cap, there is a bit less muzzle jump. The flat end cap is a shade quieter. The difference in muzzle jump has been noticeable enough that I prefer the braked one to the flat one.

There is no free lunch with light suppressed magnums. My 20” 300prc AI is 10.3lbs with scope and bare muzzle. Running a ulta5 or 338ultra you can’t spot shots and I can’t tell much difference in recoil with either running 215s, the 338 is much quieter but very long at 11.5” making it the equivalent of running a 31” Bbl. With the SRS Ti pro 5 recoil is not bad at all and I can spot shots. Your best bet is probably something like a Magnus K RR at 7.5” if you want to keep length down, not hearing safe though and probably still more recoil than you’re wanting. There are longer versions too. I’d see if I could try one out first before spending the money, I never shot one one of the RR versions myself. But I doubt any suppressor out there will truly tame a lightweight 30 Magnum recoil wise.
what velocities are you getting out of that short barrel 300 PRC AI?

It’s a 30Sherman Mag/300prc ai

20” bbl with n570 and 215bergers, ADG brass.
It’s shoots well at 2950fps on the top end and it shoots good at 2870fps also.
124gr hammer hunters at 3550fps
245 bergers at 2725fps

Interesting…I have a B&T Ranger SS and the recoil with its brake is no different than when I switch to my Jolene S which is very similar in weight. When I put the Hyperion on the same rifle I do get a little less recoil but that is due to it being a little heavier. This is with both my 7mmRM and a 6.5CM.

I trust TBAC’s published “60% less recoil” with their system. The OP’s problem is that he’s shooting a stupidly powerful cartridge and even with the 60% reduction he still has more recoil than a lot of people can handle.

All my testing with the Scythe, so far, has been on my CZ 527 6.5mm Grendel. Even though recoil is not at all harsh, muzzle jump is pretty significant. So, it is noticeable when I use the braked end cap.

At what power scope and what range are you trying to spot these shots?

I was shooting a 6-3/4lb Tikka 300 WM with the APA Lil Bastard, TBAC's brake with supressor, nothing really helped, but the Lil Bastard was great for recoil.

I found what really worked for me was rebarreling to 6CM

I had a 9.5 # all up weight 300 prc. Just sold it and got a 243 and 223 instead. I felt the 300 wouldn't be any advantage unless I was trying to kill well beyond 1000 yards and I won't be shooting at game that far. With a TBAC dominus I was often able to spot shots IF my form and set up was perfect.
Adding a large ,heavy can like the new bigger TBACs will help, as will a quality rear bag.

Harvester 300 has a break on it. I have a 12 year old harvester 30 w/brake. Seems to work just fine and distributes gas 360 degrees without a blast.

I also have a lightweight 300 prc. Spotting impacts at less than 400yds is pretty much not gonna happen. So so at 500, I can start to see impacts well at 600

It has a KGM R30 which is quiet enough to shoot without earpro (behind the gun anyway) and helped a decent amount with recoil. (I can shoot it all day without getting sore or bruised) Keep your scope powered down to 12x or under and don't put any down or lateral pressure on the buttstock with your face.

The Abel theorem L, with their new brake attached. I have a theorem and theoremS. I installed the Theorem with their brake on my 9# 65saum and it made a notable difference VS the TheoremS with no brake. I also have deadair nomad lti xc, and using the recoilX brake on that tamed my 11# 300norma improved quite a bit.

I have the Theorem S on order to try with their brake, but I also have a Magnus S, Magnus S-RR, and a full length Magnus. The full length Magnus is a different recoil than either S version, more of an elongated push, but it’s still more than the S-RR. There is no doubt the S-RR reduces recoil more than a non-braked suppressor.

I have a lightweight 300 PRC with a Banish Backcountry can on it and this is my exact experience.
