Best short, light hunting can? Looking for sub 6” and sub 10oz

May be a bit ignorant for me to call it the best, however, you may want to check out the Mac Brother Zenith K suppressor. I picked one up, have only fired a couple rounds through it on an indoor range. The can is light weight and short, you will sacrifice some suppression for sure.

TBAC Ultra 5 is 5” long and 6 ounces. Checks all of your boxes. I have used mine on 300 PRC and it is excellent. Don’t even know it is on the rifle.

I also use an Ultra 7 6.5 on my 6.5 PRC and it is my favorite rifle to carry. An Ultra 7 in 30 cal is a great one-suppressor choice.

Just invested in a Magnus S RR for NRL and hunting last year. Slightly out of your specs, but definitely tames recoil.

I have never had an accuracy issue with any of the above.

I’d recommend about 30 other suppressors before I’d recommend an Ultra 5. It’s not hard to find something much better 6in or less and sub 10oz.

What are the top 5?
I’m not going to not consider something because it’s 6.25in or something but extremely close to his specs-

Reaper 30 with a SRS brake
Airlock 30
DA Nomad Ti XC (some are still salty about how they were treated during a warranty claim way back when but I’d still rather run over a UL5 by far. They’re decent)
Raptor 8 even though I think it’s like 1/4 inch longer than 6 inches if I remember right
Echo Attitude 30

Unknown OG 30 is close on weight, and only 4" in front of the muzzle.
You should probably avoid the OG 30 for a variety of reasons. One it sort of sucks from a suppression standpoint but additionally it’s not made for magnums.

The Ti XC is definetly an easy button choice, easy to find in stock and it pretty much meets your other listed requirements. I’ve really enjoyed mine, it’s light, quiet and compact. The reaper would be another one to look at.

Somebody mentioned the TBAC ultra 7 which is also an amazing silencer, not the newest flashy thing but it still hangs well with all the new stuff. If I had to have one silencer only, I’d keep my ultra 7.

I like my off the shelf Sig Cross with 16” 308 barrel for this role. 6.5 Creedmoor is fine too, but Cross was plug and play with shorty threaded barrel, plus sourcing ammo is both easier and cheaper these days.

A Raptor 8 is 8 oz without the OTB section. I tried it that way on a 243 and was not impressed with recoil reduction. The OTB section is back on. I realiy like it on my 6ARC and 280AI.

I cannot wait for my DA Nomad Ti XC to get out of ATF jail. It will good my the 7BC barrel I am waiting for.

I agree. It's not the new hotness, but the TBAC 7 is still very easy for me to recommend. I've used my new Airlock 6.5 the last couple of weekends and I think the added girth of the Airlock is more noticeable than the two inches and two ounces of the TBAC 7. I also love how easy the TBAC is to switch around rifles with the CB mount.

The TBAC Ultra 7 in 30-cal was my first suppressor (back when I would only ever own one!), and it continues to be my favorite. An Ultra 9 in 6.5 may be next for me.

Love my ultra 7 but it’s a 30cal direct thread.
No reason to upgrade but I’m curious.
I’d like to try a zg 6.5 to see the difference.
It’s 2 in shorter and 3 plus oz lighter.
I only shoot a 6.5cm and 223.

Some brake end caps reduce recoil notably. The extent depends on design, how much powder you're burning, and muzzle pressure. Take a look at TBAC's recoil reduction figures on their suppressor lineup for illustration (and the RR aren't even the most effective compared to some aftermarket designs) - https://thunderbeastarms.com/img/Poster_2024_magnus.png

With a 300 PRC a good end cap brake should make a noticeable difference but it's going to make the gun louder. OP is kind of asking for a unicorn. Small can on a larger magnum = mediocre suppression and recoil mitigation.

The one that is most appealing to me in theory for OP's application is the SAW Orev with the end cap brake. The down side would be OP's application is maximizing the rating of the suppressor and there isn't a lot of first hand use reports to say if that rating is conservative or not. 2nd choice would be Nomad XC with recoil x comp brake end cap but that is going to exceed desired weight/length a bit more.

Thanks for linking that. I've never seen it before and it's really interesting. There are some trends in there for sure. Looks like as the powder capacity goes up in cartridge so does the effectiveness of the brake. On their 300wm testing, seems that you can expect a decibel increase of 10-12db with the brake added throughout all of the cans tested

I wouldn't have guessed that the recoil reduction was so dramatic with the brake as compared to a normal end cap. I'm sure it has a ton to do with the design of the brake though. I don't feel like I can tell much of a difference with my scythe on any of my magnum rifles compared to a different can. That brake design might just not be as effective.

Yeah, the anchor brake isn’t as effective as some others, especially the single port.
