Suppressed 300 wsm elk / oryx project questions

I would say if you like your current rifle, cut and thread the barrel and get a suppressor for the muzzle blast issue. A shorty 300WSM isn’t going to cure your main complaint, it will actually be worse.

I don’t see any true “need” for a new rifle.

You make a good point on the "need", but I have to disagree with the muzzle blast assumptions having messed around extensively with both a 24" 7 Rem Mag and a 20" 300WSM (even having used the same suppressor on both). The Rem Mag barks more. GRT load data backs up why this is. The Rem Mag loaded to the same pressures has about 17% more muzzle pressure even with the longer barrel (at least based on the loads I use: IMR-7828 or Retumbo for the Rem Mag and 4350 for the WSM). This is just due to the overbore ratio and resulting slower powder preference of the Rem Mag. You can load the Rem Mag with a faster powder to match the shorter barrel WSM muzzle pressure, but you'll take a fairly large velocity hit doing so. Load the WSM with a slower powder like VV560, and it still doesn't exceed the muzzle pressure of the longer Rem Mag barrel.

Chop the barrel on the 7 Rem Mag back to 20" to make it actually useful with a can on the end, and the muzzle pressure goes up nearly another 20%. Either way you cut it, there will be a noticeable blast increase with the increased overbore of the 7 Rem Mag.

You’re banned from talking to my wife .

I run a 20” 6.5 prc and it kills everything just fine with a tbac ultra 7 or the dominus.
